Doesn't matter when it was mathematically proven to not be possible. Todd Rogers also has faked mathematically impossible scores for many other Atari, Intellivision, and Colecovision games. Also doesn't matter because Twin Galaxies has up to this point promoted him in various paid events.

Quite frankly, I don't mind that they're not going for speed and fluidity of movement. But they fundamentally designed a game that doesn't know what it's trying to be. It's part an exploration game where you're walking around in alien worlds and you're meant to be scared or whatever. But at the same time, you just have a gun that can kill everything pretty much instantly. There is no single point where you're actually in danger, at least from the gameplay demo. This demo is either the worst representation of its core gameplay loop or the game is just fundamentally designed poorly. It's not as if you can't have a game with both an emphasis on shooting and atmosphere. System Shock, Metro, and STALKER come to mind. The gameplay can be tense during gunfights because of ammo conservation and the raw lethality of shots. These games all have quiet points where you're walking around, enjoying the atmosphere. SCORN seems like it will be heavy on ammo conservation given the ammo counts on the bonegun, but what's even the point when you're never presented with any more than 3 enemies at a time. The setting is cool, but that's really all the game has going for it. It's a really cool tech demo, but that's it.

When I first played 1, 2, Switch I thought Nintendo's end game with the Switch was to make consumer grade AR/VR experiences. They've kinda pushed that area since the Wii and the 3DS, but the Switch was literally the first time where motion controls on the console as a whole felt like it was both integral to the gameplay and not a poorly done gimmick. Labo takes the existing control scheme and takes it to the next level by making full use of the JoyCon's gyroscope, accelerometer, and IR sensor. Just within the trailer they already show off a few of the unique ways they use the Switch's hardware. The piano is driven from the IR sensors so they can detect when a certain key is depressed. The little robot bug thing and the falling man both use the haptic feedback to move. The fishing rod and bike handles both seem to use the gyroscope with the former probably also using the accelerometer. The robot backpack uses a system of strings attached to your hands and feet to move tabs that will be picked up by the IR sensors. They're genuinely well designed units that are simple in both functionality and construction. I initially thought its a bit expensive, but you're already paying $60 for the game along with the rest of the materials, which are actually fairly cheap. Since Nintendo is also going to provide templates, you'll equally be able to make your own cardboard ones. If you want to get a more permanent solution, 3D printing or laser cutting is viable. I don't think it'll be a breakaway success, but it fits Nintendo's overall mentality of pushing new boundaries and creating unique play experiences. It's a really awesome thing for kids, which is the target audience, but also awesome from a pure design perspective. The way we interact with games hasn't really changed a whole ton. The major innovations like D-pads, touch controls, and motion controls happened a long while ago. However, only until now motion controls are actually viable between the Switch and various VR platforms. Unique control methods and use of hardware should be embraced because it promotes unique experiences in and of itself.

  14. Keep in mind that its not the hobbyist that's buying 2 cards for a dedicated mining rig that's driving up prices. It's not even the guy making a 8 card rack for mining. It's the investor who is filling a garage or small storehouse with entire racks of dedicated rigs with dedicated cooling and backup power. And honestly, it's so incredibly profitable that it only made sense to upscale when people were just making small-scale rigs back in 2013. You could easily expect to repay the cost of a ethereum mining rig within a few months. This crash doesn't mean anything in the long term or even in the short term. This affects people who were trading primarily, especially if they were on BitConnect's literal ponzi scheme. The game hasn't changed much in the last 5 years. BitConnect is just another case of Mt.Gox and no one will remember it within a few months. Everyone will go jump onto another exchange and repeat the whole process again. The people investing in coins for profit will find themselves in another scam while the miners profit off the artificial inflation. Bitcoin and all the other major altcoins so heavily attached to it will never die completely. It's an unregulated market and completely volatile, but as long as it remains unregulated, people will still treat it as a commodity, and it will never die.

7 MORE DAYS AFTER 5 GODDAMN YEARS Full breakdown from what I could tell: Character at the end with the red skirt and headphones is the mystery character found at the end of Solo Remix (the mobile phone port). That end screen also includes 7 MORE DAYS meaning that this could have been a longer project than it seems. The girl with the pink hoodie (Atarashi Koko) is from Live Remix, a fairly short lived mobile game spinoff Dual control combat with both hardware buttons and touchscreen is preserved The version of Twister (the music in the trailer) is partially re-recorded and remixed

    Meltdown and Spectre CPU Vulnerabilities

With last year's biggest revelations being the entirety of Vault 7 and the Equifax breach, we're starting off this year with a two exploits (though divided into three vulnerabilities) ranging about 20 years of CPUs. Article Dump: Official Meltdown and Spectre Exploit Website Includes Q&A, CVEs, and academic papers Google Project Zero write up on Meltdown and Spectre Written by one of the researchers that found both exploits The Register - Kernel-memory-leaking Intel processor design flaw forces Linux, Windows redesign Ars Technica - What’s behind the Intel design flaw forcing numerous patches? Meltdown explanation in layman's terms Wired - A Critical Intel Flaw Breaks Basic Security for Most Computers Why Raspberry Pi isn't vulnerable to Spectre or Meltdown Includes layman's explanation of speculative execution Meltdown in Action: Dumping memory Meltdown demo - Spying on passwords Official responses from various companies Intel AMD ARM Microsoft Amazon Web Services Google Android Security Bulletin Linus Torvalds doesn't like Intel A valid complaint given that Intel thinks its ok that malicious actors can only read memory LLVM's work in progress Spectre patch for variant 2 Important information about Microsoft Meltdown CPU security fixes, antivirus vendors and you Basic ways to exploit these vulnerabilities: With Spectre, an attacker can put malicious JS on a website, allowing them to read all browser memory including form data such as passwords, cookies, session tokens, and encryption keys. Similar approach can be used with Java in a sandbox. With Meltdown, an attacker can host software in some cloud environment to read memory form the host machine. Any data hosted on that server can then be read. tl;dr: Two major CPU vulns just went public Exploitable CPUs allow attackers to read memory of processes currently Meltdown is exploitable on Intel CPUs while Spectre is exploitable on Intel, AMD, and ARM CPUs Meltdown is not yet verified to work on AMD or ARM CPUs Spectre is likely to affect all modern multithreading CPUs It is unclear if this exploit has ever been used publicly before now Patches have been put out for the Linux kernel, Windows, OSX, and Android but only for Meltdown so far LLVM have a work in progress patch for one of Spectre's two variants Expect lots of recompiling soon Patches are software to fix a hardware issue. This isn't going to be properly solved until a couple years down the line with a redesigned CPU generation. Performance hits are expected, and further performance hits are expected when the Spectre patches roll out Ballpark 5 to 30% performance decrease for Intel CPUs This primarily affects system calls, not computation, meaning that things like rendering or gaming shouldn't be affected in any substantial way. Expect the largest performance hits on VM software that use Hyper-V or docker containers Likely not an NSA or CIA backdoor because it would still affect their own hardware as much as anyone else As per usual, encrypt your data and use stuff like NoScript. As long as you keep up to date with software patches, the average user shouldn't be alarmed. BUT FUCKING UPDATE YOUR SHIT

    Meltdown and Spectre CPU Vulnerabilities

Microsoft is the next big shitshow of the Meltdown/Spectre damage control. Microsoft has disabled Windows Updates for all machines without Meltdown/Spectre compliant anti-virus. This includes machines without AV, disabled AV, non-compliant AV, and AVs that are compliant but do not have the proper registry key added. There were rumors about this beforehand, especially since Microsoft had a page on their official release talking specifically about people with AV. Completely fucking unacceptable solution.
