Yeah, I do have to say I am disappointed with the roster of characters this time around. Most of the unlocks are Koopalings and I don't know why they added all those baby characters. Honestly, I think they should have added maybe a wiggler or a boo, or Bowser Jr. instead.

I have noticed that the item balance is much, much better, especially when compared to the monstrosity that is Mario Kart 7 150 CC.

Geez, how many times have you had to restart because one shell prevented you from getting 3 stars in every CC?

So, I just got Mario Kart 8, and I must say, its a far superior product to Mario Kart 7. Controls are good, plenty of characters, really cool maps. The characters are easy to unlock, just get first place in any grand pix, doesn't matter what level. Haven't got to Rainbow Road yet, and I really hope its good. The Wii U Controller does a fine job, and you can choose between "turn the controller to turn controls" or just use the joysticks, which I think is better. EDIT: Also, seeing Bowser on a bike is pretty hilarious.

Managed to snag a first party gamecube controller on Ebay for 15 dollars. Hopefully I'm not sent a picture of a controller.
