The Daily SPUF - A blog for you! Posting submissions from subSPUFers daily!

A few days ago it was 96 degrees with 100% humidity. I live in Florida is anyone's forgotten. For reference: It doesn't bother me that much, though. I've learned to like all weather, especially with how during Hurricane Season it can go from 90 degrees to thunderstorm (or both) in an hour. There are nice afternoon showers every day which bring mild coldfronts after enough though. -

DON'T REMIND ME ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CABER! *Sobs* -
On the part about change, I'd say, if anything, the Smash 4 community welcomes change, because they are able to. Diddy was OP as hell, hoo-has out the ass, people wanted that changed because he was far superior to any other character, people wanted other characters to be viable, and so Diddy got nerfed. Every character in the game received balance patches that the people wanted. If anything the Melee community is resistant to that form of change because it's not possible. Melee is out, it's over a decade old, it can't be patched. But from what I've seen, Melee is all for change in terms of practicing and perfecting other characters who aren't the top tier, trying to bring them up and show that they can be used viably. That's exactly what Amsa did. Amsa came out of Japan from fucking nowhere and beat Mew2King (the 4th best Melee player in the world) and he was playing Yoshi. A random guy playing a mid-tier character beat a lifetime pro playing a top-tier character, because he played his character well enough. It caused people to rethink the tier list and how characters are used, and Amsa gets a ton of respect for it. And you call the top dogs in the Melee community childish, but at the same time want to see the winner hurl insults at the loser? Losing is already bad enough, there's no reason to be a dick and pile insults to the guy's face on top of it. Just shake his hand, show respect for your opponents.

Didn't you read? I understand that Nintendo might not exactly want to support a game that's over a decade old, but they won't even support their newest title in the franchise, which took off competitively as soon as it was released. Smash 4 may be designed as a party game but it plays better competitively than I think Arms ever will. But that said, I'd love to be proven wrong on that statement, I'd love to see competitive communities actually form around the games that Nintendo is pushing because they're good competitively and not just because Nintendo is pushing them, I'd love to see them support those competitive scenes and hopefully work on their PR.

Bit of a rant here. It really irks me how Nintendo is ready and willing to push Esports for their new games like Splatoon 2 and Arms and Pokken, even before the games have even launched, but want absolutely nothing to do with competitive Smash, because people don't play it like a party game as they intended. Some people argue that the reason they don't is because Melee is an old game and they want to move forward, but even if that is the case, why don't they support the scene of Smash 4, their most recent and newest Smash game? Melee and Smash 4 house Nintendo's biggest Esports community, and yet they try their hardest not to acknowledge it. The scene and the community has fostered itself for over a decade, built and maintained by the players themselves, and is thriving now more than ever, but Nintendo wants not even to look at it.

There was info about Superstar Saga in the Eshop datamined, but I don't think it was this specific.
-
What now we get like a Superstar Saga HD remake with free Goomba Mode DLC which actually looks really good.

They also just announced a "reimagining" of Metroid 2 on the 3DS and it actually looks good as fuck. Like an actual Metroid game. WHY ARE THEY SAVING THIS SHIT FOR THE TREEHOUSE?

I think Nintendo did pretty well. New Xenoblade, new trailer for Fire Emblem Warriors (I don't give a fuck but I know a lot of other people do), new traditional style Kirby game which I'm actually glad for, new Yoshi's Island (pretty much its own sub-brand), Rocket League on Switch, new look at Mario Odyssey, I've been looking forward to a new 3D Mario for a long time. And also new fucking Metroid. The gods have heard our pleas. EDIT: Also the new Mario has hats.

Ah yes, the good ol' Ubisoft downgradedowngradedowngrade.

Sony didn't pull out very many notable games, but the ones they did were of good quality. New Monster Hunter, new God of War, that game Detroit I've heard about for a while, and maybe the new Spiderman game are to note. No Knack 2 no Skate 4.

On the bright side, Grant Kirkhope just confirmed via his own Twitter that he's producing the music for the Rabbids-Mario game, so at least we have a good ass soundtrack to look forward too. For anyone who may not know, Grant Kirkhope is the guy who made the music for all these games. A couple of which, like Yooka-Laylee, he worked on alongside David Wise, the guy who made all the music for the Donkey Kong Country games. And on an unrelated note, someone pointed out that the Wii is getting the new Just Dance. It will never die.

Ubisoft's E3 was actually pretty decent this year, they focused on actually presenting games and not making shitty jokes. They had a lot of racing/freestyle sports games which seemed uninteresting, a No Man's Sky: Pirate Edition game, Skylanders in space with a gimmick which will undoubtably be cracked wide open and exploited. The South Park game which has been in development for fuck knows how long was shown. And Beyond Good and Evil 2, I've heard good things about the first one, but I have a feeling that this sequel-prequel is gonna be undelivered hopes and dreams simply based on how long it's been and how much the gaming industry has changed. And then we get Rabbids + Mario. I wanna go off on a bit of a tangent about this one. The game itself doesn't seem bad. The gameplay seems pretty alright. I just have to wonder, why Mario and Rabbids, of all the franchises? Those two don't mesh together in the slightest. Rabbids are the Minions of gaming. A few months ago when the game was first leaked, I had to seriously question the legitimacy of it, simply because it seemed too harebrained to exist. Like...why? Who thought of this? They said they've been working on this game for three years. Maybe it's just Ubisoft being weird as fuck in typically Ubisoft fashion. EDIT: Especially the fucking DK Rabbid. Why is there a Donkey Kong Rabbid.

I think we've also just kind of hit this point where graphics can seldom be improved on, so selling a console solely on graphics is just impractical, meaning that a new console HAS to bring some sort of innovative function to the table, which in itself is becoming more difficult.
-
I've found them increasingly boring in recent years. I think it's just becoming harder to innovate and make new things that wow the crowd while remaining practical and weildy.
