Once my plane took two hours to takeoff. Then we entered turbulence and it shook up the plane so much the obese Mexican woman next to me vomited in my lap. Thankfully that didn't matter much because the plane crashed into a remote forest we were flying over. I saw my mom dying before my eyes as she was pinned down by part of the engine. I tried to help her, but wasn't strong enough. She looked me in the eyes and told me that I was adopted. After that I tried to make my way to civilization but was captured by the local tribes who beat me and used me as a sex toy for a week. I finally escaped and made my way to Detroit where I was mugged for what little I had.

I assume it's because pulling your gun is an aggressive action, and you'll seem like an aggressive prick if you do it. Since directors want their protagonists to seem (generally) like good guys, they make them look like the victim to get the audience's sympathy. Relevant as fuck.
