In high school science class, I learned that you cannot have two people jerk off into a cup and then expect a baby to form.Well, at least not while the teacher videotapes the results for "the scientific community." -

I'm fucking serious, I saw a real live Medic. He was only there for a couple minutes and he wore a Gibus, so I think he hit "7" on the class selection screen instead of "8". -

This is one of my biggest fears: an ochlocratic movement, composed of a lot of people passionate about something they know almost nothing about. How long before the next Hitler or other great orator comes about and convinces people to do something utterly stupid? It's like the Internet Blackout thing - great if you know everything about the bill, but because some random person said it's bad doesn't mean it is. I get a little tired of people who have no fucking idea what they're talking about espousing their opinions which frankly mean jack shit when they're based on "expert" opinions, loaded statements, and emotional appeals. I digress, however. It really depends: Do the ends justify the means? Is it right to con someone into doing good? To me, a charity gives away all of its money to its cause, except the basic amount it needs to continue operation. Invisible Children made an almost $5,000,000 profit. That seems more like a moderately successful business to me - perhaps a small movie company?

I'm thinking of recording the sounds my hard drive makes when the head hits the platter, then selling it as dubstep.

Thing is, it's not. We drew the lucky cards when we were born, into a first world country. If, say, the roles were reversed, I doubt a lot of the Ugandans would care about us. I know this sounds cruel, but life itself is a brutal struggle for survival. I don't have much disposable income, and if I donate anything, I'm sure it will eventually end up financing a corrupt politician's coup. That's what happens in those places these days. I personally blame European colonialism.

Want him gone? Ask your Western government of choice to have a special operations team put a bullet into his head. I could, but... they can make more.

It was a scientific inquiry, thank you very much. Both of us won, as humanity has gained a new understanding and has begun a new Age of Enlightenment.

Actually, while slavery was probably the most important reason for the Civil War, it had very complicated reasons. The Industrial Revolution was in full boom during the 1850s and 1860s, and the North industrialized at a much faster rate than the South. The North had a large supply of immigrants willing to work in factories for low wages, and as such didn't need slavery, while the South, which was mostly rich white men and slaves, needed the slaves to work in the fields as THEY sure as hell wouldn't.Unfortunately for the South, Enlightenment ideas about the universal equality of humans were influential in the richer and more "European" North. When the South succeeded, if Britain and France somehow became involved and fought on the Confederate side, the Union was doomed, and they knew it. At the beginning of the war, slavery was legal in all of the United States. The government saw that if they ended slavery, it would not only virtually guarantee European neutrality, but cripple the South's (which was still a de jure part of the Union) economy. The Emancipation Proclamation was therefore as much as a political move as a moral one. Of course slavery wasn't particularly liked in the North, but then again, the United States was highly racist up until the 1960s or so.
