I feel this needs to be spread everywhere, as (bizarrely enough) ransomware has gained a reputation in the past for actually giving you your files back if you pay. WannaCry did. Petya 2017 does not. Please tell your clients this.
Also, a la Kaspersky and other independent sources, even though it uses EternalBlue and EternalRomance as a lateral movement mechanism, it's initial attack vector seems to be a third party Ukranian software called MeDoc. Hence, the majority of attacks (by an insane margin) are in the Ukraine and the Russian Federation. WannaCry was a global infection.
