  5. Happy rampant consumerism day! I'll be working in a bookstore for seven hours. Fun.
  6. So I finished reading Worm. For those unaware, it's a web serial set in a world where a lot of people have superpowers of varying kinds. The protagonist, Taylor, has the power to control bugs. Long story short, turns out bug control has a hilariously high ceiling. Also, there are super-kaiju that show up every so often, and superpowered gangs, and things escalate. A lot. It's absolutely fantastic. Read it.
  7. So in the store today, a pair of boys (ten or so) and their respective mothers come in looking for something. I, being preoccupied with another customer, direct them to the customer computer to search, and go over to help when finished with my current customer. ME: "So what are you guys looking for?" KID: "A book." PARENTS: hysterical laughter
  8. So our new car finally arrived. Subaru Legacy. It's cool. In practice, that's going to be mom's "Brooklyn and back" car, while the two Camrys (2000 and 2007) will be for dad and I to alternate with depending on who's going where. (Translation: I'm gonna be driving that 2000 Camry into the goddamn ground. At least we got the door fixed.)

    TIAM: General Gaming edition

Either Madden got way more difficult and complicated since the last time I played it, or I just suck now. (Could be both, to be fair.)
  15. Update: holy shit I convinced them I don't know how, but somehow I convinced them (and so begins the "so what the fuck do I actually want to do with my life" process)
  16. So I mentioned my travails with this new job thing. (TLDR: turns out it's an accelerated management training program, 50+ hours a week, minimal starting pay, currently trying to sell fios to customers even though I suck unbelievably hard at it.) Long story short, on tuesday when I brought this up, my parents said "give it a week, see how it goes." I said fine. So yesterday, after a week, I basically said my opinion of this place was unchanged and that I don't think it's for me, and they said "give it two more weeks" and I am trying in vain to say, again, that this really is not for me and two more weeks will just reinforce that opinion and that i will be thoroughly miserable for those two weeks and gain nothing from it. And now dad's napping and mom dropped in to ask what the plan is even though we agreed last night to talk about it again today and that hadn't happened and mom just randomly decided to do this on her own. Nothing I say is getting through, they're just hitting me over and over with the "just see it through" card. I am being stonewalled and I fucking hate it. Advice please.

    attacks in Paris

I agree with this. I don't usually care for his opinions and I am certain that his statement regarding Islam could have been articulated better, but did he really deserve a ban? As for the Paris situation, my heart goes out to France and her people. I also think people are getting caught up in the debate about Islam as a whole way too quickly. Must we go through all the usually regurgitated knee-jerk responses to muslim extremist attacks that we always do? Of course anyone with even the slightest amount of sensibility realizes that terrorists =/= all muslims. Can we calm the defense squad down ever so slightly. This isn't about Islam as a whole, currently it's about establishing the facts and recognizing that something terrible happened in the heart of a European nation and that it could happen again. Arguing Islam on an international scale isn't going to solve anything other than stating facts and coming across as daft. This is fair. I lashed out at Verumae because I was in a really bad mood and his post pushed my buttons the wrong way. However. I'm seeing a lot of posts on social media advocating the "bomb the shit out of them" position. And virtually everyone on Facebook is doing the French-flag-overlay thing. Kneejerk reactions are a Bad Thing. That's why I snapped.
