  1. Is it sad that I don't wanna do 4k because I know that planetside, the game I play primarily, has terrible support for high res screens due to being a 2012 game? Honestly 1440p seems huge already to me.

I have been running an acer monitor and it's been great as my primary, no weird color fuckery, never really needed to adjust it. Might be good to start with

  2. Fuck. My friend gave me an RTX 3090 for my birthday.

This is an issue because now I need to buy a new monitor (since my current monitor setup has port incompatibilities) and I'm a complete curmudgeon at this point who is astounded that anyone is unsatisfied with 1080p monitors running at 60hz.

The issue with that is if I buy something cheap it'll be like putting low octane gas in a damn race car. Fug. Anyone got gamer monitor recommendations...?

The thought process behind writing a modern Isekai is the same as the one used to write a trashy romance novel.

    I will not elaborate.

There's no need to, you're right

Though much like trashy romance novels, there can be ones that steal the right blend of things that interest you, even if most of them you'd not touch with a ten foot pole. I actually really like Honzuki no Gekokujou for example

  4. It was all a genius ploy by Lucas to illustrate the jumps in technology that progress exponentially (as seen in real life). Anakin worked on that robot for 76 years but only really made progress in the last ten. Time after time again the intense level of detail proves that the Prequels are incredibly genius movies and should be celebrated

  5. It's been kinda fun to see the pushed design mistakes make their waves in mtg, speaking of. In the thb/eldraine block of terrible design choices we had a lot of incidental lifegain (uro, omnath, oko) and card advantage stapled to things that were already good and then after that we had treasures: the treasuring (ragavan, every single commander-oriented card printed this last year [which is basically every card printed last year]) and I'm not sure what's next.

  6. IT's a shame I never really got to play it with the real rules. The last real chance was in high school but even then the board game club usually played trading card games or less mainstream board games. Maybe later on when my niece/nephew get old enough.

That being said there are plenty of other board games and tabletop games worth playing that I won't lose much sleep if I don't ever get a good game of monopoly going

thinkpads are great, I got myself one this year and I'm enjoying it

I've always wanted one, actually the chromebook was a gift for me asking for "a cheap laptop" which is technically correct, but... it's more of a tablet than a laptop

Nowadays I know that asking for tech gifts is either "directly link what you want on amazon, or just ask for money and buy it yourself"

  8. You know I'm usually one of those "just watches stuff for the cute girls" but I recently read Ajin - Demi Human and man that's a fun as hell manga. I actually learned about it because I picked up the 3DCG anime adaption years ago and thought "this is pretty good, I'll finish it later" and then didn't really ever get to it. Oops.

Just an excellently done action manga, the art's really great all the way through, it does a good job of giving "normal human" characters awesome things to do even as the crazy stuff escalates, and there's just so many awesome moments and I think it does a good job of exploring the supernatural elements of the setting and using it to build up more and more crazy scenarios. I was reading the last third of it in my seat on the airplane and I'm certain my brother next to me thought I was having a fit cuz it was just so much fun to read.

I'm sure I'm late to the party though, but man it's been a while since I've been so satisfied by a manga. Might watch through the anime because despite >3dcg it's supposed to be pretty good and have some original stuff at the end

  9. I lost my chromebook at the airport (left it in a bin at TSA like a dumbass, though there are far worse places to leave something) and couldn't get any word on it from the online site/phone calls. So I started looking at replacement devices like used thinkpads over the trip and I actually kinda ended up getting a little hyped about finding a replacement, since the chromebook was a gift and wouldn't have been my first choice anyway. But then upon return they had it in the lost and found and I was just like "b-but I was going to do so much awesome stuff with a new laptop..." I might buy myself one anyway for my birthday or something.

Also don't get sick, especially on a vacation that you already didn't wanna go on. Bad time all around

I had a dream where I was channel surfing with a friend.  The programming was new despite me not having cable for something like 5 years and not knowing anyone who still has cable.  The only shows I remember was a late season My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and an episode of Twin Peaks: The Return.

Then as one show ended an announcer showed up and said "If you thought that last program was crazy, our next show is really going to blow your mind."

At that point I immediately woke up.

What did my subconscious mean by this?

He's breaking the conditioning. Flush him.

    I think for a while I thought Bernkastel was a Type-Moon character.

I think I only knew bernkastel wasn't due to Sakura Fish threads on /a/ which is pretty embarrassing tbh

  12. I'm baffled as to why Just Cause 3 has spacebar make you violently eject yourself from vehicles. And also why it bothers to have individual controls for six different vehicles, if you rebinding the "jump the fuck out" button away from spacebar will also rebind your parachute on foot (something you're going to be using dozens of times every single fight). On top of that, the standard E button basically does the exact same thing, but for some reason they couldn't just make pressing E gently leave and holding E parachute jump out.

These are absolute rookie control mistakes. I don't remember this being a thing in JC2, though maybe it was and I just got used to it. But this is the same game that locks the FOV at 40 and has no way to change it, forcing you to run a third party program to edit the FOV to a normal level every time you launch the game, so maybe I should have lowered my expectations

    Still haven't seen Haruhi.

But I'd have to do this three or four times and average to get truly accurate results.  For example I accidentally clicked and put Joshiraku below ZZ Gundam which had the effect of bumping it out of the top 50 though it's easily in my top 20 in reality.

That's always been my issue with ranking systems for stuff like this. The time it'd take to get in the headspace to rank everything accurately is so long it's not even worth it. Plus it definitely changes over time often enough to not be accurate after a while. I've got the same issue with music

Though this has reminded me that I need to update that txt file where I've been keeping track of everything I've watched and my backlog

Every time I hear "Peace Sells" I think that Dave Mustaine's spoken word delivery is practically identical to Weird Al (particularly in many parts of "Albuquerque."

    Is it just me?

    Nope you are definitely right

It's funny because the parody versions of Mustaine's vocals often makes me think "he's not THAT bad" then I listen to Sweating Bullets and am forced to agree of them all over again

I'm honestly blown away by how much I've improved simply by sketching instead of going head-first into the finished product like a moron.

Honestly from my own practice sketching I've definitely learned the importance of breaking something into processes. It's funny because I saw the advice everywhere about how to break up a project into little workflows and tricks to use and I usually first thought "well that's neat but a lot of work" and eventually it became "oh my god fixing or changing this little part is a nightmare because I didn't plan it out and separate these parts into distinct areas I'm going to just always follow this plan now"

I feel like a lot of my improvement came from planning stuff out rather than just getting better at making lines n such.
