    TIAM: General Gaming edition

So I've been playing Rising Storm 2 lately. While the gameplay and gunplay feels more solid than in RS1 so far, one of the most noticeable cons is that the voice acting isn't nearly as good as in RS1/RO2, partially due to Tripwire's CEO becoming a rather hardcore Christian, and thus, putting limits on the amount of swearing characters can do in their games. Despite these all being games that are about either massive wars or zed apocalypses wherein a lot of living beings get shredded to very tiny bits. It's a good thing that despite that, that the playerbase of Rising Storm 2 does a stand-up job in filling in the voice acting gaps left by Tripwire in almost every round.
  2. Fridays are comfy unless you have a deadline on Friday. Which has been the case for me in the last few weeks, and this week too at that.

    SPUF Refuge Thread

I am still mad how they made Alohan Marowak's signature move pretty much Move Relearner either by putting it in the level-up list just ONE level before it can evolve.

Are these the signs of the end times?

Pokken getting a Switch port is pretty neato though.

    Killing Floor 2

It's pretty neat that Tripwire will finally do those Summer Sideshow Events in KF2, although that new Sharpshooter rifle they have teased looks like a fucking abomination. It's like the M14 and the Winchester decided to have an exceptionally ugly baby.

Tripwire is a close follow-up with Killing Floor 2. I cannot understand for one bit why they thought some of their balance changes were a good thing. There are, and there have been periods of months were certain classes were nerfed into the ground, and early on in development, the most cardinal sin was that the only boss at that point could two-hit literally everyone from Hard difficulty onwards with an attack that took like half a second per hit and hit like five times in a row if you couldn't dodge it. Not to mention their other flawed design choices at the start, such as making welding completely fucking useless for like a year and a half before they gave the Support class the ability to repair broken doors. Speaking about other devs dropping the ball, I would want to give it to Avalanche Studio's for Just Cause 3's optimisation. I really, really want to like the game, but it's like a coin-toss if it decides to work at a decent framerate, and when it does, it is the question if it doesn't decide to fill up my SSD with a few extra GB of VRAM because it has memory leaks out the ass. It especially stings considering how well Just Cause 2 ran on everything including borderline toasters. Christsake, I got a constant 60fps on JC2 on a 220 GT, that's how well optimised that game was. Same can be apparently said for Arkane Studios and Dishonored 2 compared to Dishonored 1.
  8. The Parrot was the true MVP of that case.
  9. What is it with AI programs and developing unintended personalities, I can still remember Microsoft's AI Twitter program going full /pol/ in less than a day of being launched.

    Pokemon

I hope that they at least give an option for a higher difficulty, Gen VI's difficulty was sorely lacking in general.

Or some random game updates that take up a fuckton of GB. One of the latest examples: Dirt Rally had a patch lately that added full VR compability to the game. While that is a nice feature to have for the few dozen Dirt Rally players who have a VR set and want that maximum immersion, the patch added a hefty 11.5 GB to the game files, and I am fairly sure that there are more players whose hard drives started fuming or their data cap filled up for the month because of said patch than there are players who play Dirt Rally while wearing a VR set.

Most games in the last few years take up too much space. Apparently most of it get caused by developers not bothering to compress audio files anymore, leading to the game's audio taking up at least half the game size. I might as well buy a new HDD with the way things are going.
  13. Has anyone tried it with a bottlecap yet?
  14. Some of my friends just use another beer bottle to open other beer bottles. It's not fancy either, but hey, it apparently works.

    TF2 general

So Disgaea 1 got TF2 promo items now. Feels weird since I played that game, what is it, seven years ago on the Nintendo DS? Would be even weirder for people who played the PS2 version, which is 13 years old by now. Time sure does fly.
  17. Yeah, overnight plane trips sure are weird. Coupled with that I never really feel comfortable flying, the last few times I was on a nighttime plane trip, I ended up staying wide awake for the 6 hour flights. I pretty much spent the entire flight reading comics (Blueberry, a Belgian-French Western comic series) while almost everyone else was taking a nap. It was a weird experience. Speaking of which, I will be away too for the coming weeks. Being off to Curacao tomorrow. I'm feeling pretty anxious about the 10 hour flight, but otherwise, I am excited for it. The return trip in a few weeks will probably be even harsher since we will be flying at night then, and coupled with the timezone difference, and how I most likely won't get any sleep on the plane again, I will most likely have a gigantic case of jetlag when I'm back again.

I always thought Game Theory was a cringe channel, you aren't saying that those people are actually serious, right?

As someone who is about to finish the Joyful, here's my opinion about the series: The First is a Yume Nikki clone, and is a bit of a prelude to The Painful with some characters that do get vaguely mentioned throughout the series. It's not much, and you might as well watch it on YouTube instead of playing it yourself. The Painful is the main course: It's a pretty unique RPG despite being made in RPGMaker. Despite having a few little issues, it is one of the best indie RPGs. The story is quite good, it also got a good bunch of humor despite the setting being pretty fucking bleak. It knows to find a good balance between funny moments and 'oh god what the absolute fuck' moments. One of the most interesting things about it, is how the choices that you make have actually an impact on the gameplay, villages and the fate of some characters. It's not like Telltale's 'lol this guy will die one chapter later anyway', some of the choices that you make will screw over some characters, or will end up saving them. That is, if they don't die later on against a Mutant. That every party Character outside of Brad is killable doesn't help either with that. One word of advice with that: Especially the first act loves to throw some very, very nasty surprises at you if you aren't careful. Speaking about the party characters, there are a lot of them, and you won't end up using every single one during one playthrough. They do differ a lot from each other though, so if one of them bites the dust, it isn't like you could replace them with someone who does exactly the same. Some of those characters are memorable (which will also get the most use), while others don't add much at all. The soundtrack is also good, despite being also pretty weird sometimes. It fits with the vibe of the game, to say so. The Joyful is pretty much an epilogue chapter. As you are on your own, it doesn't have much interesting things gameplay-wise. It's mostly to wrap LISA's story up in a 2-4 hour epilogue chapter. Some of the more mysterious non-party characters from The Painful get some development, so your opinion might vary if it is a good or bad thing. For some characters it is decent, for some, it isn't. It also lacks most of the trademark humor of The Painful, yet it certainly has it's moments. Especially the final few bosses are memorable. The soundtrack is probably the best thing about it though.

SUBSPUF GAME NIGHT V2- THE RE-GAMENING

Same here, my schedule will be irregular, but very busy for at least the next two weeks, so no chance for me to join you lads for a game in those weeks.

    E3 2016

The new LoZ is already one-upping Todd 'Sweet little lies' Howard in that regard by being actually able to climb mountains.

    E3 2016

Nintendo E3 so far: First an hour of absolutely boring Pokemon Sun/Moon footage. Could appreciate the enthusiasm of the presenters though despite it being footage from the first hour of the game wherein not much happened. The the new Legend of Zelda got shown and the hype got to dangerously high levels again. Goddamn it looks good.
  24. Same here, I played lots of Pokemon and Fire Emblem and I started up on Ace Attorney in that period, although I also decided to play F-Zero GX once the cast on my arm got replaced and freed up my thumb and left index finger from the cast. Still managed to beat several cups on Master while doing that. The Gamecube controller is quite user-friendly even if you can only use two fingers on your left hand. Then again, I imagine it being way harder if it's your right arm/hand that is broken. I would go nuts if that happened now to me, since I got also an assload of university assignments to write out over the next few weeks.
