TIAM IV: Guydiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Cockmongler
John Caveson replied to Raison d'être's topic in General Discussion
I remember when my great-grandmother died. She was 99. She was a Swdish immigrant who lived through 2 world wars and the Great Depression. I remember when we all sat down near her grave and had some KFC. She loved KFC, so it almost felt like she was still there. It makes you wander if you would like to live to see the 22nd century. -

Technically speaking, we are still in the Korean War, just a 50 year long cease-fire and an establishment of a de-militarized zone at the border. -
Soccer confirmed for TF2.

TIAM IV: Guydiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Cockmongler

Went to a concert at a park last night and they had a school for music playing with all of their students going up to play (I was wondering why there were so many different musicians walking around). It wasn't actually that bad, in fact, a lot of these kids have a lot of talent. Like seriously, two 5 yr olds holding guitars twice their size played really good, and one of them was a lead singer and sounded like the lead from Areosmith. They even played their own songs that they created from the school. These students will go far, I can tell. -

Looks like Youtube changed it's playback setup for videos. They got rid of the black bars entirely and made the font transparent. I kind of miss the black bars though, it stands out and you can immediately tell it's from YT and not some other site. It's going to get some getting used to, that's for sure. -

Now watch the sequel: "Love Never Dies." There was a sequel? Either way, it'll be a while before we see another play there. Those tickets are damned expensive. -

Saw a live performance of Phantom of the Opera at the Pantages Theater in L.A. Even when watching the movie or listening to the soundtrack, it's still really good and a breathtaking performance. The emotion felt real, it was awesome. -
Just played an custom TF2 super expert MvM game. Didn't run any better or worse than when I was on Win 8.1. So there's that news.

I LIIIIIVVVVVEEE!!! Results: I went for a job search, came back, installation was just about finished. Had to reconfigure a few personal touches, other than that, it seems fine. I really like the start menu back, you basically make it like Win 7 or Win 8, so personal choice is always nice (I obviously will be running it like Win 7). I also really like the desktop switching thing, speaking of which is it possible to have two desktops on one screen? that would be nice for multitasking. I have yet to run any games on, so I'll have to get back to you on that tomorrow. Microsoft Edge seems cool, way better than Internet Explorer. In fact, I like the whole personalization aspect you can have for it, plus the ability to write on webpages to make notes and save them for offline use is really cool. Is it a rival for Chrome? Only time will tell, but for now, it seems like a perfect excuse to use two desktops.

I just remembered that this was a thing. I reserved when the thread was posted, so it's been a while. My device runs Win 8.1, and is compatible, and the OS already has downloaded. I might as well install. I'll be back to inform you guys if I'm alive or not. See you on the other side, mates.

Can this be its own topic please? Anywho, in an effort to expand my PC gaming boundaries to go beyond just TF2 or just shooters in general, lately I've been going on a "game demo spree" of mine. As in, I download a bunch of demos for games on the Steam store for anything I'me even remotely interested in and try them out and see what it's all about, and if I enjoy what I see, I put that game on my wishlist for later. I used to do it in my XBox 360 days. So far the results have been rather interesting. So far I have somewhat obscure games, such as Lost Planet added to my wishlist, as well as non-shooters, such as Rayman Origins, to even genres of games I have had little to no experience/interest in the past, such as Tomb Raider. I even rated some of these games as higher on my wishlist than what I was really stoked about before, all due to the demos I played. Now you might ask what is the point of demos since you can just watch someone on Youtube or Twitch play the game and determine if you want it or not. To be honest however, and this goes for a good majority of games, playing the game directly can feel a lot different than watching someone else play. That is not to say watching someone else play certainly doesn't get you interested in the game, in fact, they may be the whole reason you download the demo, it's just at the end of the day, you have to ask yourself, "Do I really want to spend money/time on this game just because this guy thinks it's good, or do I think it's good enough to purchase?" Demos allow for the latter to be answered much more quickly and definitively than scouring more let's plays on YT, and searching through forums and reviews to the point where you just flip a coin and go "fuck it, I'm buying it. I Mean if everyone likes it, it must be good right?" only to find out that you wasted your money. A good example would be the FNAF series, you see all these YTers and people praising the game, then you download the demo thinking it's overrated and just want to see what the big deal is, play it, then you go "Oh I actually do enjoy this from all the subtle ambiance and gameplay", or "Meh, it is overrated, no thanks." Having a demo for a game also is a sign you have enough faith in your product to allow people to play it and risking that they might not as interested as they were when looking through YT. Which, in today's AAA industry, seems to be lacking. So yes, I do think game demos are relevant in today's industry and should be put in a lot more games because it shows you have the balls to let your customer try out your product before buying it.

I was watching Game Theory's latest video which discussed about this and it got me thinking about it, and I'm surprised it wasn't addressed here before. This is obviously a controversial topic nowadays, but only very recently considered an actual serious one. 10 years ago if you asked this question you would be laughed at. But now it seems that it's a rather difficult question to answer. You will find yourself questioning what is a sport even is these days. Competitive gaming has made major strides to become recognized as a legitimate career in not just the gaming world, but the general public as a whole. Sponsorship, international tournaments, 6-figure incomes (with those at the tippy-top, reaching the 7-figures), strict rules and regulations for competitive leagues that have scheduled seasons for teams, large attendance records being broken, casting from major sports networks such as ESPN. All of these factors contributing to what normal sports have, yet, even with all of this at disposal, there are many that still claim that e-sports aren't "real" sports. So the question remains, can competitive gaming be considered a legitimate sport currently? If not currently, does it still have potential to become legit? Do you even want e-sports to considered "real" sports? If not, what is holding it back to achieve recognition? If so, how close are we to achieving that goal? What genres of games ( e.g. FPS, MOBA) do you think has the highest potential to be common games found within the legitimate e-sport circle and why? What genres have the least potential and why? Multiplayer games obviously are dominant in competitive gaming, but is there potential for co-op or singleplayer-focused games to become e-sports? Is this whole debate pointless (similar to ones such as what a "real gamer" is), and that e-sports will never be or even should be recognized as a legitimate sport, but in fact, should remain separate, yet equal to regular sports? I'll come up with my own answer later, but for now, I would like to hear what you guys think about the e-sports gaming scene and how much it's come since the early days.
