For getting DDoSed. Granted, one time will not do it, but if this continues to happen we'll be asked to either upgrade to DDoS protection or leave.

When it comes to shit that will get us kicked off our provider, I DO NOT FUCK AROUND.

This is exactly it.

I feel like such a tragic event deserves more than a simple acknowledgement, so here goes. For as long as I've been on the Internet, it's been natural to see people come and go, some quietly and some very loudly, but that's just how everything in life goes. Even I myself didn't expect to be a part of this community as long as I have, knowing my own history, but I've been around long enough to see plenty of members come and go. For all that I've been a part of, I've never had to confront the possibility that someone would so suddenly depart, permanently and with no chance to return. Of course, nobody ever does because of the nature of the Internet, where nothing ever truly dies, but is simply forgotten to most. It feels even more surreal because of how separated the Internet is from real life, leading most of us to believe in them as two completely separate realms. That brings us to now, where one of our own has had to depart life suddenly and at a relatively young age. I can't claim to have known XYTWO too well beyond the server I once ran and the forums I still run, but from the times I did have with him he was always a great friend to have, committed, active, and fun. He made more than enough of an impact here to make the members of this forum acutely aware when he disappeared during this tragic course of events. It's no understatement to say that he's made his mark, and his presence will be sorely missed. His passing reminds us that at the end of the day, all we can hope to do is have made enough of a good impact when it is time for us to finally move on. Thus, we bid farewell to you, James "XYTWO" Lebowitz. Your impact on the people here will never be forgotten and will continue with us to the end of time, and when it is time for us to join you beyond the mortal coil, all that we can hope for is to have measured up to you. Rest in peace, dear friend.

This might happen soon if there's interest, so make your voice heard!

You messed up hard and soft g. "Hard" is always the pronunciation that is closer to the letter, and "soft" is always the pronunciation that is closer to another letter.

A few clarifications... First, as to how it would be implemented - IP.Blog is a separate component of the IPS suite, so in order to add it we'd need to pay the license fee and ongoing maintenance fees. That's not really an issue though as me and Binary have agreed to cover the costs of buying it if there is enough interest, and the maintenance fee is not too bad (and we can always deactivate it later if it's not being used). As to usage... it's obvious that it does conflict with certain ways the forums are being used right now. It certainly would impact TIAM and could be construed as a longer version of status updates, sure. However, based on what I remember from the preview of IPS4, it's pretty clear to me that blogs will offer more flexibility in presenting content with features like privacy settings included. At the end of the day, I think that it can offer some interesting possibilities in the future, but it's up to you all to decide - I'm just offering the option.

Thank god for the falloff fix. Getting destroyed on mids by stickies was absolutely awful.

After thinking it over, I have come to the conclusion that there is no good reason why we can't have a Mumble server hosted on our regular server. There shouldn't be any major issues that come out of it (that I can see), and it's free for me to do so. Therefore, I'm opening it up to vote: would you be interested in getting a private Mumble server for SPUFpowered?
-
you know what I bet it will be fixed on the upgrade to IPS4
-
I'm sure you would know all about that.

It's very much a second-tier game compared to CS:GO, Dota 2, etc. but it's certainly not irrelevant. It's also growing, but the top of the scene is rapidly dying without anything to play for. Certainly it could grow into a top-tier game, with all of the dedication that the community has had to pour into it, but that depends on Valve to actually put some decent measure of support into the competitive game, and so far they haven't given a shit.

Does anyone want to laugh at how terrible I am at writing? I need a final paper reviewed so that I don't completely bomb it.

I am waking up early, but wouldn't have time to even open it before 9 AM, so I don't think that's super helpful to you. Sorry.

I might be able to help. I have an hour or so tonight, and I'll be getting back up at 8 AM.

As someone who's looked at the code, no, that's not it.

Does anyone have an objection to our mods continuing to serve another year? If so, PM me.

You have no idea how much there is to screw up being a forum admin. I know because I have to deal with it when Rammite and binary screw everything up. 8)

Heh, as if that hasn't already been happening for a while now.

ESEA LAN is this weekend. I'm a producer/designer/programmer/whatever for TFTV, which is handling broadcasting. Go watch it. It will be awesome.

People are STILL mad about that?

Does that mean IPB uses usernames to track users instead of, say, an immutable ID number? That's...interesting. No, it's an issue with the migration process specifically. Login procedures are changing, and the way it'll work is that display names will be used for login as well. Obviously, there's an issue if your display name is something crazy.
-
You can still do it, but I can't open up a live test of the migration (or migrate the forum) until they're all changed back.

I remembered why I renewed our license and attempted to get a test copy of the forum upgraded to Beta 3 - no dice. It seems like the error is being fixed, though, and hopefully that means we'll be up and running with something to preview in Beta 4.

This is a thread where I'll post some screenshots from the IPS preview forum that I have access to, in order for you all to get an idea of what changes will be coming. Quotes in the new version - by default they're collapsed like in the top image, but can be expanded like in the bottom image.
