  1. I believe I posted it.

Funnily enough I also thought it was a silly megaman album and didn't want to care for it, but I heard it on some holiday r/a/dio of all places, saw people meming about it, and actually listened to the full album. One of the few times doing that didn't disappoint with bad songs.

Cactus was right, The Hounds is probably my fave but Light Up the Night is in second.

  2. I still can't believe how many times through school I should never write down my passwords or anything anywhere. I dislike password managers, and these days I constantly have to do "forgot password" for so many sites that I rarely use/use for work.

I should really just get a notebook and write down my passwords. A burglar breaking in and seeing my list of passwords is the least of my worries at that point.

Granted, I could see this advice being bad back in the day considering my brother's "friend" literally stole his entire runescape inventory because he was loose-lipped about his password. I'm also aware they don't want people putting passwords on sticky notes on monitors (even if I see that at work all the time).

  3. Yeah as someone who's seen peoples reactions in so many different places, I think the people who are reacting to this the most are people who started playing in the last 5 years who never saw a major update.

It's gonna be exactly like Robot Boogaloo where people go "wait this is it?".

It doesn't help that there's 3-4 months for the undeserved hype to build up.

One of the best things about not having cable, any video streaming service or a social media account is being immune to manufactured trends.

Having a lot of people saying "What's your opinion on Velma? Do you think it's as bad as people say? I mean, you watched it, right?" and my reaction is just "who the hell cares?"  There's a million bad shows out there that everyone just ignores.  But this one has been turned into an artificial trend, so that even people who do not like it feel compelled to talk about how they do not like it, rather than just moving on to something worthwhile.

When I had that stuff I got suckered by these trends too, and it's kind of amazing how blatantly fake they are when you are not being primed for them by the mainstream sources.

People also just need to curate where they visit better. I typically stay in higher quality discords and follow not a lot of people on twitter and I can avoid 90% of the boolshit.

But I still see that kind of stuff elsewhere or it can slip through the cracks on some discords I'm obligated to stay in, but I just don't bother most the time with that kinda stuff.

When I was a wee lad I thought that there really wasn't any difference between "normies" (not that I called them that then) and people like me.  Nothing beyond a difference in hobbies.  I.e. I liked weird sci-fi stuff, RPGs, superheroes, etc. and normal people did not and it was only this difference in hobbies that made us seem different.

Now that every historically "nerd" hobby has been mainstreamed, I can be certain that no, the normies are intrinsically different.  What's more, it's also clear in retrospect that there were normies in nerd hobbies even back then, but not in large enough numbers to ruin them.

This kind of ties into the missing SPUF thing too, since SPUF's obsolesce made it anti-normie, which can never be achieved with Discussions.

As someone who is technically part of the L4D2 community update team, I find it unreal that some of the people there actively use the Discussions. I can't imagine having such a terrible "forum" be part of your daily routine.

The 100% Orange Juice discussions were pretty forum-like, but that died out once discord came out and all Fruitbat Factory discussion was relegated to their stupid discord.

Wicker is this the Syringe gun server crash thing you found a while back?

    nah

that's still possible if you got the medics to do it, but it's harder after they made some entities not count toward the 2048 limit

My Resolution is to make/complete my first tf2 map, sa2_deathchamber

    unknown.png

And get back into L4D2 modding, I've been feeling bad not doing too much, especially considering I'm gonna be on the Community Update Team if more updates to the game happen.

Maybe try some new foods too.

I guess as an update to this - I worked on this map quite a bit in the early parts of the year

Then out of nowhere after a year of silence, someone revived my L4D2 group, and made my tf2 map progress to a halt because my free time for that got fed into l4d2 modding (hey I guess I said I wanted to get back into it...).

I did get the main part of the map ported into TF2 and released an alpha version for some friends, but getting accurate map lighting and the entities from the game into tf2 is tedious work that I'm still learning how to do efficiently.

    image.png

I very often want to work on it, but it turns out the work is 50% modeling, 30% placing the entities into tf2 (using math because I had to rotate the map 45 degrees in tf2 to make it play better)., and 20% tf2 map editing.

Still, I worked on it very sporadically throughout the year, and there's still a ton more left to do for it to be "good enough" in my eyes. It's come a long way from that singular room I posted at the start of last year though.

I still get random friend requests from accounts that are like "I've been playing TF2 since 2015, I make maps!" and the account is only two years old.

Then you check their recent playtime and they've been running the game 24/7 for the last two weeks to bump up their hours played.

I still get bots commenting on random screenshots too, asking to buy my backpack, not sure how they find those.

People comment on screenshots because private profiles don't automatically make your screenshots private, and you can just go steamcommunity.com/id/#idhere#/screenshots and view em all. Some default to that route cuz it'll work for both private and nonprivate accounts.

  10. My high school friends were SPUFers...

I've retained one grade school friend though. I also game with my cousin, my sister, and her BF on the regular.

I made the mistake in high school of trying to stick with my grade school friends, but a lot of them turned out to be major douchebags. Had more fun interacting with the grade below me, but they were the type of "gamer" who played Osu, and said "I have so many hours on Steam..." (highest game: 221 hours) so I didn't really stick with 'em

Random idea on how to buff the Steak and Dhalokos Bar to compete with Sandvich/Banana:

    Steak:

    -  Allow Heavy to heal himself for 150 by throwing it like pre-nerf Sandvich.

    -  Alternatively: Remove damage vulnerability during melee-only buff.

The problem with the steak is that you can't heal yourself, only others once every 30 sec. In order to compete with the other lunchbox items in terms of healing utility, having the old throwing behavior could be a nice throwback.

Alternatively, just go all in on the melee-only Hoovy aspect and get rid of the damage penalty on the slowest class in the game locked to using their fists. I would even go further by adding a ~20% damage resistance instead.

    Chocolate:

    -  On eat: Heal for 100

    -  Decrease current recharge rate by 50%, making the new time to ~5 sec.

The chocolate bar i would make it to the Second Banana, what that was to the Sandvich. Having a 5 sec. recharge essentially get rid of it as the eating animation itself is ~4 sec. So you have the old no cooldown chocolate bar, and you can still crap out small health kits every 5 seconds, with a tradeoff of only 100 self healing. So now you have three tiers of healing:

    - Sandvich: Full self-heal every 26 seconds; Medium health pack for team every 30 seconds

    - Banana: 200 self-heal every 6 seconds; Small health pack for team every 10 seconds

    - Chocolate: 100 self-heal every 1 seconds; Small health pack for team every 5 seconds

    Thoughts?

I've honestly been talking about lunchboxes lately with a friend, and the only thing I've really been thinking for the Buffalo Steak Sandvich is that it should just heal you upon eating it as well as give its effects. The dumb competitive argument of "its annoying that it can be used to get to mid fast" is lame but if they really wanted to help that they could mark you for death or something if you didn't take or deal damage during the duration of the effects. I think the more interesting buff to the Steak Sandvich would be to give it more synergy with the Warrior's Spirit by changing the Warrior's Spirit's damage vulnerability to be "30% extra damage taken on wearer, unless under the effects of the Buffalo Steak Sandvich". It's really sad that the Warrior's Spirit is almost entirely outclassed by the K.G.B. I think giving it the old heal on self-drop would just make it the best lunchbox item in the game again.

Also, I've been really enjoying Dalokoh's Bar + Brass Beast heavy in Uncletopia lately. The ~380 eHP while revved up (since the increased max HP makes the damage resistance kick in quicker) has won me so many fights because there's not a single generalist class who can kill you with one mag in a safe manner. The math works out that four pipes from a demoman put you to 5 hp. Obviously this won't work if you're playing 5CP, but on A/D and Payload it's quite fun on both sides. The extra HP from the choco lets you take a bit more of a beating when you're painfully spinning up. I equate what many see as annoying to eat the thing every 30 seconds to reloading on demoman. I personally don't do this but I've heard of some people who use the G.R.U. and quickswap with mousewheel to lower their max HP so that the choco bar heals them fully/more than it normally would but I find that kind of slow/I just use the mittens for memes right now.

So over the course of about a year, I set about Playing all the No More Heroes games for the first time.

    I

After never seeing any gameplay but hearing the music in tf2 maps/videos for over a decade, I also decided to get 1 and 2 on Switch after looking to grab it on wii from a used game store. Only a bit into 1 but I can say it's okay for now. I definitely feel the weird design decisions for a first game in a series.

We have entered the age of Iron Bomber contrarianism, where detractors insist that the Iron Bomber is worse than Stock despite statistics regularly supporting otherwise. They will blindly claim that people have been using the Iron Bomber for the past 6 years for its minutely larger hitbox which was not discovered until this very year, rather than it's more effective and more useful rollers. The detractor will exaggerate the increased range that Stock rollers get from their longer fuse time, while at the same time insisting that the decreased fuse time of the Iron Bomber makes no difference towards the roller's effectiveness. The detractor will also downplay ineffectiveness of Stock rollers which results from their bouncy and chaotic nature, and will avoid addressing said topic at all costs, even going so far as to insist that the -15% blast radius penalty of the Iron Bomber is crippling to the weapon's DPS. The detractor may even be so entrenched and deluded as to laud mediocre weapons like the Loch-n-Load or Loose Cannon as superior, solely to further his own position against the Iron Bomber. The detractor will go to any length to make himself and his choice feel superior.

Also the above post's values are now wrong because they made serverside entities not show up in the entity count for "status" in console.

  14. I got to make the first use of my Steam Deck this last week after I went with my sister and her BF to a water park in Wisconsin for a few days. Knocked out 12 or so hours on Valkyria Chronicles - a game I bought like 8 years ago but never played since it couldn't run on Wine back then. Cool device.

  15. The only time I played Monopoly with 100% of the normal rules was in Germany in high school. It's one of the stand-out good memories from that trip.

The Germans didn't remember the rules, and the rulebook was in German so I couldn't help.

It ended in a reasonable time and not having to deal with bullshit from people I know who say stuff like "I'll trade you immunity from paying me once" made for a decent game.
