New patch. Notable things include that they made the "defend the objective" contracts easier (again), fixed everyone having Mantreads, and added last year's Unusual Scream Fortress effects to the global case unusual list (which I forgot was a thing) for the duration of this year's Scream Fortress.

Scream Fortress is here! Nothing particularly new as expected, but a few spooky contracts, and the maps have been enabled. They also fixed the Mantreads on the Thermal Thruster. Still wish they'd bring back spells though :(

Think it works with the deep voice spell too. Wonder if you put both on?

It just pushes them in the direction you're facing. You gotta flick up real quick and airblast if you want them to go up. I find the new airblast much better for Uber denial and getting people away from you so you can retreat on low health.

Yeah, if you fire it on stairs or certain inclines the projectile will just fizzle out right when you shoot it. Although it seems like it only happen sometimes.

Using evil powers for good. Also I went noclipping in a listen server around Mercenary Park. The crocs are cool to watch and they just up outta the water to eat you, there's a faint rainbow in the skybox near the volcano (the volcano actually has no opening at the top), and there's a strange secret room underneath the 2nd point that has what appears to be shuttered windows and many shelves full of metal tanks/kegs.

IMO, the range on the Dragon's Fury is already big. It can 2 shot lights, and If it had long range in combination with its already crazy close range to mid range capabilities I think it'd be too much. And I think it's good that the Dragon's Fury isn't able to solo a whole crowd, cause then it'd overshadow the other flamethrowers completely; there still has to be some sort of tradeoff for an unlock. And it's been confirmed that the gas not starting out full is a bug. I agree the afterburn should be non-extinguishable.

Dragon's Fury is so damn fun to use, and can be fun to fight, assuming there aren't 10 Pyros in a server. It's definitely better than a flamethrower in the ways that matter big, but I think the other flamethrowers definitely still have their place, especially with the new particle improvements letting them deal a lot more damage overall. The Thermal Thruster I can see getting a buff, specifically removing or lessening the holster penalty. I think the recharge speed on the charges is fine, but the holster speed really kills it as a combat weapon. Unless you're jumping from somewhere high up relative to where you're landing, you probably won't have your flamethrower out and ready by the time you land. But for what it is currently, it's very good. Gas Passer needs non-extinguishable afterburn buff, then it'll actually be valuable. Or maybe the gas could make them take 50% - 100% more fire damage, including the afterburn. Hot Hand is joke.

Finishing up the left side of the contract tree before I start the right side. Those map-specific contracts are gonna be a fuckin grind I can tell.

    Jungle Inferno Update Thread

After spending a day with all the new weapons, here are my in-depth thoughts on them: Dragon's Fury: Absolutely amazing. It rewards skill by requiring you to hit a 2nd shot while your enemy is still briefly lit if you want the massive damage, it gives Pyro DM arguably on par with the generalists of the game (I've ever hit some neat airshots with the thing), but it's by no means without a downside. This weapon is a weapon, not an airblast cannon. If you want to be airblasting things rapidly, this is not the weapon to use. If you want to jump down onto the cart and kill everyone there, this is not the weapon to use either. Crowd control is not it's forte. The Gas Passer: I desperately want this to be a good weapon. I love the idea and the area denial of it. But sadly, it's just not very good. The afterburn from it can easily be extinguished, and the gas isn't even counted as a liquid, so no Neon Annihilator combos. The Scorch Shot is far superior if you want to inflict afterburn on a crowd (while also giving yourself some modest mobility). Thermal Thruster: Really good. This thing can send you high as fuck and far as fuck. My only gripe with it is the holster time. An entire 1.1 seconds to put away the jetpack. With this limitation in place, it's much more of a positioning or flanking tool like the Detonator; seldom will you ever have your flamethrower out and ready if you bomb into or chase after an enemy. The sheer mobility it gives is great, but it makes it a bit of a hard time to utilize that mobility to directly engage in combat like a Soldier or Scout can. The Hot Hand: Silly weapon. Look like a silly bastard waving your hand around. Although the speed boost you get from it is pretty big. Second Banana: You'll notice that between day 3 and day 4 they actually buffed this item. It restores 200 health on eat, recharges in 10 seconds, and drops as a small health kit. It's an odd middle-ground between the Dalokohs and the Sandvich. If you want to focus on healing yourself, Banana is the way to go. If you want to focus on healing others, roll Sandvich. I'll still probably use the Dalokohs most of the time though. That 50 extra max health saves lives.

I agree. It might seem OP because everybody's using it and there are 10 of them on each team right now so you're always on fire, but even so I've noticed in my play that the Dragon's Fury is basically the anti-flamethrower. It excels in DM which is a first for Pyro, but sucks at taking on like more than 2 people.

As I predicted, the Dalokohs Bar absolutely fucks with the GRU. I just ran around with 900 overheal that I gave myself.

Jesus fucking Christ almighty. Some people are acting like no matchmaking changes has ruined the entire update. Don't get me wrong, I want better matchmaking. I pretty much play exclusively on community servers. But the TFTeam wants to avoid another MyM at all costs and would rather give out a good delayed product over a bad rushed one; have we learned nothing from MyM? (Although I agree, it would have been nice if they would have notified us.) They delivered an update that was far larger than anything we've ever seen and included far more than what was originally promised, and idiots are acting like someone just foreclosed their house because one aspect of update was not delivered (some people are even outraged that there weren't more weapon balances. Less and less weapon balances is good because it means there are becoming less underpowered and overpowered weapons in the game). The matchmaking changes are delayed until the next update as far as we know, and people are already acting like a 450 day wait is the new norm. The Jungle Inferno update was the result of 2 (3?) updates being merged into one, and I'm confident we won't be waiting that long until the next major update. Hell, the matchmaking changes might even arrive by Smissmas, I dare to reckon.

-Bottle breaks -Reserve Shooter nerfed -Crit range and crit falloff on Ambassador -Crit-a-Cola nerfed --Atomizer nerfed -Aerial Mantread jukes -BISON REVERTED -Infamous Minigun nerf semi-reverted -Banana drops as small health kit but heals 200 on Heavy and regens in 10 seconds instead of the previous halved stats of the Sandvich. Still semi-garbo. -CLAID REVERTED HALLELUJAH -Dragon's Fury seems really interesting -THERMAL THRUSTER ISN'T JUST AN UPWARD FORCE IT GOES THE DIRECTION YOU'RE FACING THANK GOD Sad to see that Demo only got one change, but damn is it a good one. I agree with every single change in the patch notes except for the Eviction Notice and YeR. Extremely excited.

I think afterburn on non-flamethrower weapons will remain unchanged. The changes to afterburn are specifically listed under flamethrower improvements.

I'm actually really interested in the Gas Passer. If it just applies the gas to enemies upon impact (like Jarate) and the afterburn can be extinguished, then it's bad and the Scorch Shot is supremely better. But if it works like I think it will, and leaves a lasting cloud of gas that affects enemies who walk through it and the afterburn is non-extinguishable (it's liquid gas and even lights other Pyros on fire), then it would actually be an interesting option for area denial and crowd control.

I'd imagine the weapons would start dropping after the campaign ends. And yeah, I'm ready for: A. Claid/TT/LC/Persuader/Caber buffs B. None of that
