Rewatching Nanoha and Nanoha A's yet again. It's just that good. A's is honestly in my top five (1 and 2 are permanently locked with FMAB and One Piece respectively), and season 1 has the fastest villain-intro-to-utter-loathing time I've ever had in an anime: eight seconds. *soapbox* Watch this series. */soapbox*

Freedom Cry is draining. Okay, I'm putting that down and starting-ish (I cleared the prologue back in march) Ni no Kuni.

Having finished Black Flag (I started up Freedom Cry earlier, and I'm already loving that I can play as someone unambiguously good after 25+ hours with walking nexus of chaos Edward Kenway). Mini-review: Good: Combat and stealth got even more refinements- an enemy specifically immune to killstreaks and counters, more vigilant searching, etc. Naval combat is just plain fun. On that note: The Legendary Ships. These are absolutely incredible, and give memories of classic boss fights because even if you prepare and maximize the ship, these things will still give you a hell of a tough battle. Minimal bullshit renovation. Almost everything you can buy for your ship/hideout serves a genuine purpose. Oh my god, so much room for faffing about. They give you a good measure of freedom with missions again. You can go stealth your way to the target, or murderate everything and shoot him in the face. No more Desmond. Bad: The future subplot is still a thing. This time, you get hacking minigames. One of which is effectively digital Frogger. I want to talk to whoever at Ubisoft thought that was good and kick him in the groin with cleats. Ship renovation can get a bit irritating. Fucking eavesdropping. It's thankfully minimal, but it's infuriating every time. Edward's a prick. There's no real way around it. Weird/Funny: A minor target in the main game (who you have to tail before killing) is an Italian ambassador voiced by Ezio's VA, who spends his entire walk grousing about how much he misses Italy. Subtle. The Abstergo plot has a hilarious payoff: Your faceless protagonist is doing all this (A) to find stuff for the templars and ( to give them research for a movie. Which, at the end of the present-day bits, you get a trailer for. It's gloriously silly. You've all seen the glitches, but I had one where a bunch of guards were going up a ladder to chase me (I was on a balcony not directly connected to it), and because one guard was at the top and didn't spot me, the other three climbed up, didn't have anywhere to step, and fell off the ladder to their deaths. I was laughing for a solid five minutes.

Yes, I went there. Turns out if one's patient enough to trawl six billion shitty ones (or just visit the Tvtropes fanfic recommendation section), there's a few hundred decent stories in the mix. My personal favorite: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Nobody Dies. Think original NGE... then toss about 90% of the angsty crap aside and start drinking. A lot.

The legendary ships in AC4 are simultaneously amazing and controller-throwing evil. Basically they're the optional naval boss fights, four in total (at each corner of the map). Northeast: Two at once. Welcome to hell. Northwest: Stupidly fast and maneuverable with a naval ram. Basically it'll blitz you and smash you to death. By far the worst of the four solely for its speed. Southeast: Comparatively the easiest, but still tough (I haven't beaten any yet). It's basically the "balanced" stats of the four. Southwest: Slow, but can only be damaged from behind and has a viciously powerful mortar barrage which, unlike all other naval enemies, doesn't give you the target indicator for the impending death from above.

And it only took 13 sequences to reach the bullshit precursor stuff in AC4... but when it did, it resulted in a solid twenty-thirty minutes of present-day stupid hacking shit followed by a really bizarre series of semi-interactive cutscenes in which Edward was so utterly plastered it actually broke the Animus briefly. JUST LET ME BE A PIRATE FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK.

okay, me, be curious about watch dogs after finishing AC4 and ni no kuni I'm nearing the end of AC4- good fuckity god, this game is fun. And it only just now reached the precursor bullshit stuff- sequence 12 of I think 14. Also, berserk darts and smoke bombs just utterly break stealth and combat respectively- the former causes the target to attack anyone in sight for 20 seconds while you sit in a hedge out of eyeshot before collapsing dead, inevitably either killing most/all of the guards or drawing them away from the actual target. Smoke bombs- immobilize anyone within five feet of you. And immobilized = chain stabs. Also riflemen can't see you for a few precious seconds. I only use these when I'm otherwise going to be incredibly annoyed by the mission, because they're just that OP.
