should there be a rule/setting in comp that disables random crits?
When I played a lot of comp pokemon in gen 3 and 4 I thought about this, and the problem with that is that simply removing crits doesn't work. There are pokemon with high-crit abilities and attacks with high-crit chance. Plus, removing crits alone wouldn't solve the issue, since there is stuff like how long sleep takes, how often you can't move through paralyze, and if you hurt yourself in confusion. Setting those to set intervals isn't possible; say you would let a pokemon hit itself in confusion every other turn for 4 turns, then an opponent could play into that and make a confusion+protect setup pokemon. And even if you;d be okay with such a big metagame change, there is the issue of move accuracy; making Fire Blast always hit would make it overpowered and completely superior to Flamethrower (unless PP is an issue)
Finally, unrelated to random chance, pokemon is starting to get an incredibly long banlist, which is never a good sign for any competitive game. So tl;dr pokemon will always be shambles
