Microsoft possibly buying Minecraft for $2 Billion
John Caveson replied to John Caveson's topic in Current Events, News & Politics
I'm with you on enjoying all of the Halo games, I thought they were fun. I just did whatever and that was that. But the majority of Halo fans are competitive gamers, they were the ones that made Halo great and supported it the most. To alienate them in such a way by dumbing down the game so much and changing the core gameplay was an insult to that community. It was a big middle finger to your core fanbase. And business-wise, it's not a smart idea to do that. Look what happened to Halo 4 and you'll see what I'm talking about. I may not be one of them competitive types that are super serious about the game, but even I realize that it's not wise to fuck off the bulk of your fanbase. -
Welp, I know what I'm getting this Xmas. This was the thing that finally convinced me to buy the game. Tomorrow, I'm going to walk down the nearest Gamestop, get a $20 Steam card, come home, enter the code, get CS:GO and then you'll never see me again. Goodbye forever.

Microsoft possibly buying Minecraft for $2 Billion

Answers in bold. Thankfully, 343i made the MCC, so even if Halo 5 flops, then at least Halo will survive until the next console generation. Otherwise, according to the competitive players, Halo is dead. -

I agree that the community can get on my nerves sometimes, but that's what Halo's core community is, competitive. They care about fair and balanced gameplay. Loadouts ruined that since everyone doesn't have the same weapons, and thus equal starts, which was the basis of Halo's balanced gameplay. Loadouts themselves wouldn't be much of problem if the weapons were balanced. When the game released, the DMR dominated the semi-auto primaries, while using anything but the AR for full-auto was stupid, as for pistols, the boltshot was practically a power weapon right off the bat, and giving the player an anti-vehicular grenades (plasma stickies) at the start was sublimey stupid. Even the Amor Abilities people wouldn't mind if they weren't so unbalanced and stupidly designed (an ability that allows you to see through walls WTF!?). Only after several balance patches it got better, but by then, it was far too late. The maps were poorly designed and not made for 4v4 and super asymmetrical (except Haven). And Ordinance drops goes against everything the core Halo multiplayer was about, which was fighting for map control as a team for power weapons, not get killstreaks and gain power weapons on demand. I'm all for helping new players, but if you outright alienate the core fanbase of a franchise, the people who actually care about the franchise and what made it great, then of course the game is going to get massive backlash and die. But if you're going to put all of this shit into the game, that's fine as long as you put a separate set of playlist for both competitive and casual players, similar to Halo 3 and CS:GO, that way, everyone can have their cake and eat it too. -

It was a good game, but it did shit compared to the original trilogy because of all the dumbed down, newb-friendly shit they forced down everyone's throats, such as perks, loadouts, killstreaks in the form of "ordinance drops", a dumb, grindy progression system instead of a skill-based rank, join-in-progress, combining the casual and competitive playlists, the list goes on. The community was furious, and just like that it went from 100,000 players to less than 20,000 in just a few months, deader than dead compared to the the original trilogy that kept peak numbers for several years. That's what happens when Microsoft buys out companies and forces them to appeal to a "broader audience". -

Is what tells me that. If you're going to criticize, at least use ones that make sense, considering I've never seen an in-game ad of any sort. What it represents is Microsoft constantly appealing to a "broader audience" (a.k.a. dumbing it down) whenever it takes over a game franchise and marketing and hyping it all to holy hell by joining forces with LCD companies like McDonalds, and Mountain Dew just for it to be a flop in the sales:marketing ratio and then MS basically abandons it forever. If they do start putting ads in the game though, I will not be one bit surprised. -
Yeah, thanks cockface.

Honestly, if Valve increased the backpack slots for F2P to 100, we wouldn't have this problem. 50 slots was ok up until late 2012, that was when there were simply too many viable weapons for F2Ps could carry, thus, P2Ps had the advantage of being able to carry more viable weapons than F2Ps. Also, the minimum amount of money needed from buying from the Mann Co. Store is $5. $5 is all it takes to experience the full game. After that, you don't have to pay a cent more, anything beyond is just donations to Valve. After that you can just start trading for the more viable unlocks instead of waiting for drops. So basically, the game is worth $5.

It went down to the mid 7 ref range a month ago, some thought the key bubble finally burst, but I guess it was a false alarm.

Well despite what the majority says, I at least put CS:GO on my Xmas wishlist (both figuratively and literally) *COUGH COUGH* so I might get it for Xmas. I mean, it seems like a good deal for only $15 (most likely $10-$5 with the inevitable sale), so I won't lose much. And after viewing some gameplay videos of it, I think I might actually enjoy it, I think some of my TF2 skills may carry over, either way I think I'll enjoy the ride. I don't know, perhaps it's just my guilty pleasure to play an ULTRA BLOODY SCREEN SO REAL BROWN EVERYTHING shooter to just screw around on. Anyway fuck yall I do what I want. As for Halo, poll is too mixed right now to make a choice. I'll have to go to different sources to get more opinions, but for now, I'm still undecided. -
Why the Dispenser? I think it has something to do with constantly refilling your ammo/health, and it glitches out your weapons suddenly switch when touching a resupply locker. And since Steel is the only map that you can build right next to the locker, it's the only map to do it. Iunno, I'm not much of an expert on exploiting the game.

Obviously, I'll be getting more games if I do get an Xbox. There are a few exclusives on there that I was interested in, but not enough to fork over the dosh just to play them. If anything were to get me started on the Xbox One it would be Halo. I'm just trying to figure out if it really would be the thing that pushes me into buying one. That I actually still have that "spark" for the franchise and in consoles in general, or I would just lose interest after playing for a week and not get anymore games, thus wasting my money. I originally didn't think of buying the Xbox One out of sheer principle with Micro$oft and their bullshit that was going on with it before (and after) it launched. Even if it meant not being able to play future Halos and other games that looked good. But when something like this comes out, it's hard to stand my ground and say no. -
Seems halloween came early this year.
