Yeah, it's always a deal breaker for me as well. It was actually the major thing that put me off Elder Scrolls Online, because someone sacrifices herself to save you at the beginning of the game, but there were ten other people running around with me and it just made no sense.

See, I've been meaning to give the TF2 update a go, but I launch the game, stare at the main menu and then close the game again. I just can't bring myself to play.

In most games, you're the chosen one or something like that, the only one to do these quests and challenges. I find this particularly odd in MMOs because that means everyone is a chosen one. So I like to pretend I'm just some sort of background character who's just following the protagonist and tripping over all these quests.
