It could be a sound card crash. You might need to update your firmware for it. Hit Windows key + R and then type "dxdiag" in the prompt that appears, then hit enter. Once the window loads, go to the "Sound" tab and see what's listed here Thanks! This is what I got: EDIT: I'll check again when I get a spontaneous sound disappearance.
