All I can do is shake my head at the rioters and looters, but the people that are managing to keep peacefully protesting deserve all sorts of respects. It must be difficult in that environment.

He simply did not have the time to devote to a hobby of that scale. With possible revenue, he found time to add some difficult features that some have asked for. Anyway, Valve takes 35, not 75. Is that still too much? Probably. Bethesda decided that modders only get 25%. They could've given modders 40% and themselves 25% but they didn't. Also, don't forget that service providers get 5% of Valve's share if listed. So if some are, then Valve gets 30%.

Gabe is not the only Valve employee, and Valve has no hierarchy outside of corporate so technically any employee could encourage the others to censor. It's also been explained why they decided to do this. "Wouldn't it be cool if modders could charge for their work?" Whether or not that was a good reason is invalid. That's where it started. Then they contacted Bethesda since their games have a huge modding community and Skyrim is still fairly popular, and worked it out with them. Bethesda decided on the pay split, they contacted some prolific modders who hopped on board, and the rest is history. And you really can't expect him to comment on the community fucking itself over. Also the vast majority of "discussions" on paid modding was bullying, harassment, and spamming. I saw it myself. That's what called Valve to respond with censoring. The community did what the internet is notorious for. If we had all kept a cool head, it wouldn't have happened.

Time will tell if Valve does anything. They've since taken down the store page banner, and now the CEO and founder is entering the world of PR. They're obviously recognizing the outrage. Better than them just ignoring it, true? If they don't do anything, I will be severely disappointed. ...Might even not buy the next Valve game or two. I know, so bold! Oh man!
