No? Bond is played by different actors because the other actors couldn't or wouldn't play him again. He's the same character played by different people. Like how Romeo has obviously never been played by the same person since Shakespeare first wrote Romeo and Juliet. It's still Romeo. Because you should try to get actors that look like the previous ones, and a completely different ethnicity is just too dissimilar for my tastes. And probably a lot of others' tastes.

Yeah yeah I know I would've hated the non-Scottish Bonds (more?) if I were alive back when they first cast a non-Scott actor. But that was before I was born. Doesn't mean it's alright to change him even more now. Up until now you could kinda suspend your disbelief because Scotts and other white races are similar - especially to people that aren't British. But a black Bond (or an Asian bond, or a dwarf Bond, or a fat Bond) makes it even worse. What Ryn said too.

Yeah we have had an original Bond. A middle-aged white Scottish cunt destroyer. That's how he's been (aside from the Brit actors which I still don't like - though as I said they're a lot closer to Connery's Bond than a black Bond could ever be) and that's how he should stay.

But that's not true. James Bond as a codename is redundant because he's 007. It would also require a lot of assumptions and handwaves. And that second line is exactly the problem. Why change him? If I could talk to the directors I'd say: Why not make a new goddamned character if you want him to be so fuckin' modern? Why are you shitting on Flemming's legacy? Christ you're already milking Bond for all he's worth now you're even changing the basic facts about him. Yeah I ain't a fan of comics or reboots for that reason. New actors came in because they became too old or didn't want to play Bond anymore. Bond can't be in his 60s because it clashes with the original character of Bond. Almost like something else about him...

He is a British spy from the Cold War, most if not all are white. It takes a lot of justification for him to be black. Would explaining how a black man in 60's Britain came to be the greatest spy in history be an entertaining tale? It sure as hell would. Is that James Bond? No. Absolutely nobody before now thought of him as black because it made no sense. I'm not a fan of changing major aspects of a character's appearance for no reason without explanation.

There is literally no reason that Bond couldn't be black and have him still be the exact same character. I mean, we've had British and Aussie Bonds, but woah no black Bond is outta the question. :I A lot of people, myself included, think Bond should only be played by a white Scottish actor. So far only white British people (and one Aussie, once) have played him, which, while Brits aren't all Scottish, they are pretty similar to most people. The layman won't be able to tell a non-Scottish Bond from a Scottish one. But a black Bond? Even the person that knows nothing about Bond will be able to pick the one that doesn't look like the others. And don't act like Bond's white "because of how Hollywood is." That's bullshit and you know it. Complete, utter, total, bullshit. Everyone Flemming based Bond on was white. In the late 50s/early 60s when Flemming was writing Bond how many of the top British spies do you think were black? Do you honestly - no devil's advocate - think Flemming meant Bond's race to be ambiguous, or do you think he didn't say he's white because it would be completely obvious to everyone? None of that counters what Rammite said. You can't change the race of Harry or Walter or Sherlock, but you can for Bond? Where's the cutoff where a character has to be THIS detailed to change his race? There is not one single good reason Bond should be black. At best it's inconsistent with the novels. Well then why not fuckin' change up everything then? Bond's a dwarf now! He also has a lazy eye! It's just a little inconsistent! People may ask why we made these changes and we say "Because we're PROGRESSIVE! BUY OUR AVANT-GARDE MOVIE NOW!" "We all bleed red" is a silly cop-out and could justify almost any fictional character being replaced by any ethnicity.

I'm sure he's a fine actor, but he ain't James Bond. James Bond is a fit, white, middle-aged dude. This isn't something only James Bond nerds that own all the books and movies know. A black Bond, to me, will always seem just like some shitty fanmade headcanon.

I like how he purposely left out Houston and instead put in characters that are much more relavant like the great Pool Pipes Man, Chinese Convict Guy, and FLYING AS FAST AS A SHARK Houston is literally the first one shown.
