Managed to play some Halo ODST. Admittedly, it was only the first area, and it wasn't on my save which had almost every secret weapon cache unlocked, but still. Still can't stand playing with a controller, but I'm glad that other than that I've found it's not my nostalgiagoggles getting the better of me when I think about it.

Turnscripts don't even help that much, apart from occasionally letting you get a kill on someone who assumed that you were a person who doesn't use exploits and thought they were safe around a corner.

I had to stop DOTA once I realized that it wasn't meant to be a singleplayer game. I always thought it was odd that there were other menu buttons other than "play with bots..."

But most games also make you lose accuracy by a LOT when you're moving and fighting as well - and if they include a sprinting ability, you literally are unable to fight.

I think there's a point where gameplay needs to be considered over realism unless you're making something like ARMA. Movement is generally a lot more fun in a fight then having to stop or slow down to be combat-effective. Hell, the reason people find Soldier and Gunboats so much fun is because you can jump all the fuck around and shoot stuff! And that's also why people generally dislike Heavy - in order to do damage, you have to slow down an already slow class. Even when his damage output is super high, people STILL generally prefer Soldier's fighting style over Heavy.

ADS is actually probably my main gripe with borderlands - well, actually it's part of a larger gripe that the game would be a lot funner with more mobility. Hipfiring is only really viable when you've been knocked out and need to get a Second Wind and even then it's a major pain in the ass unless you have a Hyperion weapon. Overall, my main thing against ADS is that it forces you to stop moving or take a major movement penalty to fight effectively, so battles will end in the same place they will begin almost every time, and movement is almost discouraged - usually there's only one effective way to fight and it's "stand your ground."

One thing that always pissed me off was how necessary Call of Duty's ADS is. Like, you'll literally watch your bullets fly out of your gun's barrel sideways with hip-firing. Coupled with an already slow walking speed, engagements will most likely involve you standing still while firing, and any sort of movement will usually end up getting you killed (especially since bullets penetrate fucking EVERYTHING) since sprinting is the only way to effectively get away from a threat, but while sprinting you can't shoot or aim at all. It's so conducive to camping, it's insane. And at the same time, I still loved it. Weird.
