Episode III is actually okay, at least when the characters are angry and grief stricken they aren't wooden. There's a little bit of nice world building, and it's probably the best shot of the three. Plus I think the Anakin/Obi-Wan duel is the best lightsaber fight in the entire series, until it jumps the lava shark and they're swinging around on ropes and shit. Episode I has some redeeming factors and it's really frustrating because if Lucas had managed to reign in the plot and toned down the kid friendliness it could have been decent. It's really hard to root for Anakin like you could Luke because he's too young to be compelling or have enough agency to drive the story forward . Too much shit happens to him completely by accident. If they had to keep Anakin that young then the movie should have been about Obi-Wan but they couldn't even do that right... but if the story had centered itself around either of them properly, it might have been forgivable. Episode II is pretty much horrible throughout. Half of it is a mystery plot we already know the goddamned ending to, and the rest of it is just mind numbing set piece after mind numbing set piece. Nothing feels like it has any consequence because it's just filler to get us from "Anakin meets Obi-Wan" to "Anakin betrays Obi-Wan". The whole mystery plot could have worked if it had focused more on how Palpatine played everyone against each other and less on the mechanics of how the clone army was developed. The battle sequences are boring because it's all nameless clones throwing themselves against droids. Most of the background Jedi have about as much charisma as either, and there's never any sense that a character you care about might suffer or die in the war. It's the most sterile pointless conflict imaginable. They botched just about everything. Yoda should never had a shitty CGI lightsaber battle and they should have left Boba Fett the fuck alone. Literally the only reason Episode II can justify its existence is how fucking great Christopher Lee is as Count Dooku, and we get more of him in Ep. III anyway. I feel like we could expunge Ep. II from Star Wars canon and it would have very little impact on the story at all. I really fucking hate Episode II.

The saddest thing about the prequels is Lucas focused on all of these groundbreaking effects at the expense of just about everything else, and a lot of it's started to look like hot garbage in a relatively short amount of time. It's like going back and watching the first Toy Story, except that's such a good film it doesn't matter how primitive it looks. The OT with all of its old practical effects has held up 100x better. I honestly think the push to remember the prequels as better than they were is marketing. A lot of those articles came out after Disney bought the property and I'm sure people are happy to write that clickbait garbage with a little "encouragement" from Disney. At the time of acquisition the prequels accounted for more than half of the entire canon Star Wars universe and it must be hard to stomach the fact that everyone hates an huge part of the series that they might want to milk later on. Maybe if they convince everyone the prequels weren't that bad they can print some more money with the Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan spinoff they'll probably greenlight between Episode XV and Sarlacc: A Star Wars Story.

When I saw that trailer the entire appeal to me seemed that these would be a super cheap, temporary novelty. $70-80 is crazy expensive.

One of the better theories I've heard is that the Kessel Run is littered with some kind of obstacle... black holes, mines, etc. When plotting a course through, you end up increasing the distance of your trip to circumvent those hazards. So Han is basically saying he took the most direct and dangerous path through.

I think with how badly the First Order fucked the New Republic in TFA, the Resistance is pretty much the Rebellion now.
