    Game Grumps

As someone who got Punch Out!! a few days ago, I can immediately sympathize with the Grumps when people are saying they're bad at the game - it is a LOT harder to play than to watch. Huge amount of rep to Danny for being able to concentrate on the game AND talk about stuff at the same time, which made me about seventeen times worse at the game because QUICKPRESSLEFTNOWDOWNUPPERCUTAAA. And to verify for people who don't know, Title Defense Glass Joe is about as hard as Mr. Sandman, and it only escalates from there. I've been stuck on Title Defense Soda Popinski for a whole day. So it's certainly a good idea that they decided to take a break from it. EDIT: FUCK YOU BALD BULL AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

    Thief

I found some footage of Thief's difficulty customisation and I must say, it's making me much more confident in the game. There's a lot of modifiers, from the relatively mundane like "No Reticle" and "Stealth Takedowns Only" to the masochistic variables like "No Saving" or "Iron Man". It'll be interesting to see the playthroughs online (as there always is) with most (or possibly all) of the modifiers on. Dishonored only really started to push me on Master difficulty, so Thief will be a fun challenge. EDIT: And TB's look at the game was very promising as a PC port. I was worried it would be a bad console port as well. I may actually be hyped now. DOUBLE EDIT: And now the game is released... iiiiiiiiiin the United States. I still have no idea why region-based release dates are a thing, especially on PC, where the packaging and shipping excuses aren't valid. Please no spoilers till Saturday or so (or never, preferably.)
  5. Cartoon horse related. Spoilered for the two or three people who still get upset over that shit.

    Thief

I predict a 75% chance of the game being dumbed down compared to the older ones, but I predict only a 30% chance of that actually affecting how fun (or not fun) the game is. Not happy with those odds, but let's face it, what other stealth games do we have? Like, actual stealth? There's Dishonored, which I've beaten at least half a dozen times, and Deus Ex Human Revolution, which is mostly great for stealth but drops off at the boss fights and the last few hours of the game. The alternatives beyond that are, like, Splinter Cell (which is about as stealthy as Call of Duty Ghosts nowadays) and Metal Gear Solid, and let's face it, if you like Metal Gear for whatever reason, you're probably not reading this thread because you're watching that trailer where Snake hides behind a horse for the fourteenth time. So simply put, the game can have awful story, awful graphics, awful sound, awful everything else, but as long as it does the stealth right, I'll be happy with my purchase. Even Garrett having a different voice actor now is forgivable if I can pacifist run the game. Don't apologise, it's very obvious. Although as someone pointed out, Dishonored was inspired by the original Thief games. So Thief inspires Dishonored, and then Dishonored inspires Thief. Ain't that some meta shit.

Here's the video for those who desire real actual from-Smash-Brothers-itself proof with their pudding, unlike most people who main Falco and cry into their fursuits every night oh skye you are just on fire tonight haha god i am so lonely Anywaaaaay, it also confirms that the boxing arena stage is indeed a Punch-Out stage, and that certain characters will have more unique features to them; Little Mac has a power meter which, when filled, allows a K.O. attack. That's pretty neat. Let's see if any other characters get it - I'd like it if that happened, since that's what made Injustice so fun for me.

If you do go ahead with running a Pathfinder game, I recommend the d20pfsrd site.

It has almost everything on there from all the books.

When the DOTA2 network comes back up we should go beat up that Year Beast or something. because having a 24 hour event with expendable currency that takes grinding to replenish and many bugs and cheap strategies should be fun EDIT: Ha, so with my miraculous luck, I got a party of people who knew what they were doing, everyone bought fireworks, we took turns keeping the Year Beast stunned, and essentially ran out the timer and achieved a Rank SSS. Immediately afterwards, I opened two Bloom Bounties and got two crap Announcers, both of them together roughly the equivalent of a half-decent rare on the Steam Market. Ha, I guess that's karmic balance of some kind. Depends if I get a Redhoof or not. Additionally, if we wait a short while, I can imagine that those fancy cosmetics that used to be too expensive will soon drop in value for their Auspicious counterparts. Compare the regular Form of the Onyx Grove to the Auspicious variant. At the time of this post, it's about £4.20 against £2.20. Superb. Guess I can get those Luckless Lockbox goodies after all. ANOTHER EDIT: I say that and within an hour or so they revert to being about the same as their normal version. I really hate predicting virtual economies, I should just do the total opposite of the logical thing from now on, that seems to be the best strategy. YET ANOTHER EDIT: And now they're back to being cheap WHAT IS GOING ON WHY IS NOBODY ELSE POSTING EDIT: Terrorblade Arcana is rad.

    sly cooper movie

I apologise if that's how they sounded in the games as well, but holy hell, Bentley and Murray have irritating voices. Just "hoyvin-glavin nerdy guy" and "duuuuh big dumb dude". Sly is "heeeeeey cocky young man with a tinge of snark" but that's not too bad. It's the other two that are both generic AND a pain to hear. I mean, I get it, there are only so many voices you can fit for a character, but god, I don't want to imagine a scene with Bentley for more than two minutes.

Phoenix is probably one of my new favorite heroes from design and "I am going to initiate and be in the spotlight for five seconds and then fuck off to the sidelines so you guys can mop up"...ness. From what I can tell, he's designed to be a mid though. I really can't imagine him in any other lane, due to his item dependancies. He sorely needs Strength or HP items, like Rod of Atos or Heart of Terrasque. Early game, a Bottle seems to do the job just fine. Next game, I might experiment with a Bloodstone (though this depends if Supernova triggers as an actual death and depletes its charges.) Terrorblade is big and scary and hits things and has lots of armor and gets even bigger and scary and goes ranged for a bit and likes illusions and... yeah. He's pretty fun, though not especially complex. I suppose Sunder requires some clever plays and choosing when to go all big with that 2 minute or so cooldown is a key decision, but otherwise he just right clicks you until you fall down. Nice design and voice acting too, though we have enough "evil spooky demon" heroes as it is. Random Ability Draft is hilarious and broken and fun and frustrating and may be what I play forever from now on. There are some really weird but good combos like Rot and Aftershock, or Enchant Totem and Walrus Punch. Also don't pick up Eclipse without Lucent Beam.

Buffalo Steak Sandvich + KGB Heavy is a dying art. I am one of its few remaining students. It's also surprisingly effective on the right kind of maps.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Four_(British_railway_companies) What have they got to do with TF2 and it's meta? Big Four is Medic, Scout, Soldier and Demoman. And I can't stop the full retard, I've gone through the looking glass. Join me in my balancing nightmare. We shall strike fear with no random critical hits and explosive resistance items.

If only that was possible. I'd say that's about the same as a rocket's splash damage. We better nerf every rocket launcher. Oh, and every stickybomb launcher. Oh, and anything that uses explosives as well, like Level 3 Sentry Guns. Actually, let's nerf every projectile in the game. We can't have them going too fast now! On a less snarky note, I've found that standing behind my patient solves this problem roughly 100% of the time. Roughly. Projectile penetration for the Pomson was totally broken, but even with those hitboxes, I've found that unless I'm trying to give the Engineer a goddamn hug, they ain't touchin' mah oober.

    GOTY 2013

I enjoyed it from an amateur-game-designer-taking-notes perspective, since it explores a lot of fourth walls elements around games, and specifically, the concept that the player actually has any choice in what occurs in a game. I enjoyed Spec Ops: The Line for the same reason, where the only real way to "win" is to stop playing - which, of course, you wouldn't. The price tag could be argued, since it's essentially a Source Mod with some fancier graphics and a few new additions, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as a "hm, time to sit down and think about games" sort of thing. It's also impressive to doing a lot with a little; I'm envious of the game making me think and be invested in so much of it when I know it's basically a Half Life 2 map with no gameplay besides walking around. But it still worked, so there's something going on in it that ticked with me. Probably something intelligent and artistic which my tiny Northern England brain fails to comprehend. Plus, you know, super sexy narrating.

I would note that things which shake up the meta are not necessarily bad, as any single major DOTA update would indicate (i.e. kicking Naga Siren's base damage down didn't ruin her, it just transitioned her to a new role which the meta has now embraced.) That's why I absolutely adore the Pomson; a majority of professional games and even just high-level pubs boil down to just "who has the best ubercharge in their pants" and so anything which challenges that for the enemy team and causes them to, god forbid, come up with a different strategy than "kritz the demo and watch him press M1 and M2 for a while" is good in my books. I'm not fond of the maximum display of teamwork on a team being "the Medic, the patient, and uh, you know, those other guys that are, you know, just hanging around." Or, you know, the enemy Medic could learn to NOT run into big glowing lasers. I kind of figured those super Division One Medics would know what their A and D keys do at this point. But I digress. Of course, as a lower-class single spy mother with four children, I'm naturally inclined to anything that pisses off The Big Four. Then again, I dislike the Short Circuit, which does that better than anything. So there's an indeterminate amount of salt to take my words with.

    Homestuck

wow very dry much snark To elaborate in a less going-to-get-flamed manner, each of the Homestuck protagonists is sort of meant to look general and ordinary. John is basically what most people would think of when they hear the words "geeky kid" and Jade is probably the same, but female. Dave and Rose are also meant to be rather "default" with only Dave deviating from the norm much with sunglasses. This is all to contrast them for effect with the incredibly awesome and/or silly items and clothing they wear as the story progresses. John looks much sillier/cooler in that God Tier hoodie when we associate him with just a t-shirt, don't you think? So yes, it really seems like Default Character #4. Probably because that's who she is going to be, numbskull. The power of Hussie is beginning to flow through me. Soon, I will replace that penguin in your signature with an incredibly masculine tastefully-naked centaur Soon.
