Am I the only one thinking that the 2011 and prior way of Halloween gifts was just superior?
It was so much more fun to have an all-out race and fight for the one gift that spawned every five minutes than to wait for almost an hour so you can waddle to your crappy gift in 2012. 2012 ruined gift distribution, and now they just buried it all together.
Fuckssake, there was nothing wrong about the way gifts were being given out in 2011. If you couldn't get your hands on a single gift, then you just needed to git gud instead of crying about it.
Let me tell ya right now, there have been plenty of other things in the history of this game that have been fuckin' amazing. Overkill have received the people's praises time and time again despite being terribly incompetent developers who somehow managed to cobble together a great game. We've gotten amazing content like big bank, hotline miami, election day, shadow raid, infamy update, deathwish, and then they bring out crimefest. Spoilered because long.
Spoiler The long awaited Hoxton breakout, something people petitioned for since the release of the game and have wanted since it's release. They hype people up over the span of two months and then crimefest starts and we get this extremely mediocre series of "sort of what we promised but not really" content. I'll even go over them one by one for ya.
PAYDAY the heist for free is great. I have no qualms with that whatsoever, that's nice, it's a great game, 90% off for the dlc and soundtrack is fantastic too.
The creatures meetup.. well alright I didn't pay attention to this so I can't really comment on it.
The creatures stream... alright you're getting us more hype for the big day teasing us with trailers of things to come, announcing the overkill store, and streaming a bunch of people who can barely play the game on normal despite being level 100. Whatever, that's fine.
2 new clown masks, alright, that's absolutely great, fantastic, I love em, they're good. Not much of a day or something you advertised but sure, I'll take it.
And then the perk trees is where things start to get iffy...They're good, the balance changes are all fantastic, and I'm glad for that but with the balance changes Overkill just suddenly gimped dodge for anyone without suit and got rid of tier bonuses. I mean I guess it's alright, it's still a bit buggy but it's a welcome change to the game. They're trying to balance the game which is great, something they haven't done in a while, and these changes are a step in the right direction, so hats off to ya overkill.
An announcement. Ok.
Then we get to John Fuckin' Wick. This is where things start to get really iffy. My major problem with John Wick is that he was our big 1.5 million people secret, and he kinda sucks to be frank. Everything about him seems so rushed and awful, his voice actor is kinda bad, the model doesn't look that much like reeves, his deck is awful and akimbo is just complete crap. Nowhere near what anyone thought it would be. So anyways, our big 1.5 million people in the payday group is just a poorly done advertisement who was awkwardly shoehorned into the game. I mean what kind of a goddamn story is "He knew chains and he helped him out once"? I would've been fine with Wick if he had at least gotten a good right instead of this stupid shit.
Two more clown masks, and DON'T FORGET TO WATCH JOHN WICK IN THEATERS GUYS. Why the fuck did they stretch over 4 masks over the course of 2 days? They're just trying to extend crimefest, this entire thing coulda been packed into 6 days if it wasn't for them taking their sweet time (for no reason)
Then we get art gallery which is probably one of the worst heists in the game at the moment, just because of how painfully dull it is. Framing frame is already an rng-bullshit broken ass stealth heist as it stands, day 1 is nowhere near any fun. It's just crap, but I don't think anyone was expecting this to be very good. That added in with the extremely underwhelming day/night heists is pretty bad. We got 1 & a half days with slightly changed skyboxes, and that's it. The crimefest banner for this showed rats, and they didn't even add that. I'm no expert on making video games but reskinning a heist doesn't seem to be anywhere near difficult. Also the fact that you can't pick the day/night, getting the added day breaks achievements for dw, and they originally didn't have assets available is the laziest thing ever.
More DLC later, who cares.

They hype it up for over two months, and then they hype old hox for well over a year, and then suddenly the big day comes and... it's kinda crap. We get an inferior version of heat street from payday the heist & a mix between a vlad heist and hotline miami. Day 1 is probably one of the most boring heists I've ever played, you follow a truck that moves a whole 2 miles per hour and move shit out of its way, and tell the driver to move because he's too stupid to look out the goddamn window. Then after that we just go to an fbi building to find out who ratted out Hox because why not? Then you run around the map a la hotline miami for a while and leave. It just seems so poorly done and rushed, it makes me so disappointed. This heist doesn't stack up to anything else in the game, not big bank, not hotline miami, not jewelry store, nothing. I mean at least with a vlad job you know what you're getting is gonna be shit, but with this I was expecting something amazing.
And lastly, my last hope for crimefest, is the new enemy & fbi files. I am so incredibly glad they decided to take their time on this because these two things could be really fucking good if they take their goddamn time on them and don't rush em out as soon as they can.
My only sin was expecting too much of overkill. They aren't evil developers capable of doing no good, they've shown that plenty of times in the past, and people have praised them for it. Payday isn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, it's currently one of the most played games on steam. But goddamn, not only did they not meet what people had expected for the event, they fucking hit you on the fucking head with the disappointment bat. Yeah sure they did it for free, but that doesn't mean it should've been as pathetic as it turned out to be. If we sound ungrateful it's because there's not much to be grateful for. 12 days of one of the most anticipated events in the history of PAYDAY and we get a vlad-tier heist and a slight rebalance. So yeah.
