Does anyone here even still watch seasonal stuff?
Regardless, can we talk about how GOOD Houseki no Kuni was?! What a corvbait show. It was CG, had a wide cast of cute girls, was a show that mixes suffering and cute everyday moments within the same episodes, and has really pretty character designs based on gems, which I used to collect and still kind of am into. It used 3DCG creatively and did things that 2D couldn't really do easily, and was an outstanding adaption (okay, the last episode was kind of a trail-off but that's about how all adaptions with ongoing materials go). Phos is a GREAT character who you can really feel the growth of throughout the show, and is starkly contrasted with everyone around her. I was agonizing throughout this entire season because I wanted to read more, but I also didn't want to lose out on the experience the anime was giving. I've began reading the manga now that the show has ended and it follows the manga to a T, and I think honestly really enhances the experience entirely. God damn, I love this show. Every episode made me want to watch more and learn about the strange world and the people in it and the fucking CGI grass animations.
It's really funny how HnK and Kemono Friends are at the top of my list for 2017. KemoFure themewise is about the opposite of HnK, and HnK's quality is about the opposite of KemoFure, but they both ended up being unusually exceptional shows to watch. What a strange world we live in. They both had bitchin' OPs too, and that's coming from someone who ignores OSTs mostly all of the time.
