I feel like such a tragic event deserves more than a simple acknowledgement, so here goes.

For as long as I've been on the Internet, it's been natural to see people come and go, some quietly and some very loudly, but that's just how everything in life goes. Even I myself didn't expect to be a part of this community as long as I have, knowing my own history, but I've been around long enough to see plenty of members come and go.

For all that I've been a part of, I've never had to confront the possibility that someone would so suddenly depart, permanently and with no chance to return. Of course, nobody ever does because of the nature of the Internet, where nothing ever truly dies, but is simply forgotten to most. It feels even more surreal because of how separated the Internet is from real life, leading most of us to believe in them as two completely separate realms.

That brings us to now, where one of our own has had to depart life suddenly and at a relatively young age. I can't claim to have known XYTWO too well beyond the server I once ran and the forums I still run, but from the times I did have with him he was always a great friend to have, committed, active, and fun. He made more than enough of an impact here to make the members of this forum acutely aware when he disappeared during this tragic course of events.

It's no understatement to say that he's made his mark, and his presence will be sorely missed. His passing reminds us that at the end of the day, all we can hope to do is have made enough of a good impact when it is time for us to finally move on.

Thus, we bid farewell to you, James "XYTWO" Lebowitz. Your impact on the people here will never be forgotten and will continue with us to the end of time, and when it is time for us to join you beyond the mortal coil, all that we can hope for is to have measured up to you.

    Rest in peace, dear friend.

Perhaps, but the majority of this is the value of keys rising, since the value of everything else in relation is falling. To continually represent it as "metal dropping" is at best a grave misunderstanding and at worst a deliberate misrepresentation.

Having a forum that gets security updates is nice.

I'd compare it to the migration from Windows XP to Windows 7 - you've got to do it eventually.

Anyway, an apology. This did not go as well as I expected due to some unforeseen factors. In particular, it was idiotic for us to announce it two days before we planned to release it, and I will accept the blame for that on behalf of the admin team. Due to this, we quickly switched the plan from only releasing the Reddit site (which would probably have been more obvious as a joke) to releasing multiple sites and having you go to a random site based on IP address. This blew up when people changed sites and then didn't realize that the sites were completely different from one another - in particular, Guy changed from Reddit to Discourse and Witty changed from Discourse to NodeBB. These shenanigans prevented the joke from being as effective as it should have been, and people didn't interact enough to realize something was up when one person didn't appear on the site the were on and yet was complaining. I personally tried to leave hints at this (the beginning of Q2 2015 = early April, listing users across multiple sites, etc.) as much as I acted like this was real (defending the change, handwaving the site changes as "DNS problems", etc.).   For reference, here are the sites (which will be taken down over the next few days): http://discourse.next.spufpowered.com/ (Discourse) http://nodebb.next.spufpowered.com/ (NodeBB) http://reddit.next.spufpowered.com/ (Reddit) http://ipb.next.spufpowered.com/ (a redirect back to this forum, nothing special) Let me be clear: while Reddit, Discourse, and NodeBB are all wonderful platforms that I would love to run a community with, I remain committed to IPS until our needs change. I have even been considering buying new modules for IPS in the interest of expanding features available to you. This does mean that we will be forced to undergo the migration to IPS4, but I hope that I have provided you with enough notice and will be providing a full staged semi-open beta install for people to test, critique, and so on before we migrate to the final release.

Change is a radical thing - and I hope that you do realize that change of such a magnitude is just as hard on me as an administrator and technician as it is on you as a user. In fact, while most of you are almost comfortably settled into this forum, we are still dealing with issues introduced in the migration from vBulletin. That being said, I do like to make small changes that I believe will undoubtedly improve the user experience, but bigger changes should always be debated, as we have done several times already (in opening up the community and in doing a forum reshuffle).

In conclusion, I'd like to apologize to everyone, especially to the people who still think that I am serious 100% of the time. It's less than that, but not by much. It's time for you to laugh at me, laugh at the copious amounts of effort we put into the joke that didn't work out well, move on, get ready for IPS 4, and brace yourselves for an April Fools joke that probably won't be as good as this because we invested so much time here.

Over the past few months, the staff here at SPUFpowered have been hard at work to create our vision of the future for this community. In the next few days, we will be releasing this vision as SPUFpowered "Next", which will serve as a preview of what we will eventually transition to.

The features of this new system will include:
sorting of content based on voting movement towards self-moderation context-rich thread system proven software basis We hope that you will be as enthusiastic about this radical change as we are, and thank you for your continuing support as we work to make this the best damn community on the Internet.

tsc got a reaction from Idiot Cube in Is TF2 P2W?
Technically, any game that has gameplay-affecting components that can be bought (and not only earned through in-game play) is some degree of pay-to-win. I would say that Dota 2 and CS:GO are not pay to win, as they do not sell gameplay-affecting items.

Thus, TF2 is pay-to-win. However, it's very low on that scale because you can easily get the weapons through drops and trading and crafting.

The poll options for CS:GO are terrible.

CS:GO isn't like every other shooter out there in that it places a heavy emphasis on skill, and you need to play the game a lot if you want to do well. However, that's not to say that you can't have fun with it at a low level, but it definitely is a lot more serious and one-dimensional than TF2 is.

In particular, TF2 is much more about good movement than it is about good aim (unless you're playing Sniper). In CS:GO, good aim is a lot more important - except for boosting, movement is a whole lot simpler: be still when shooting, walk to avoid making noise, run if neither matters, and don't ever crouch.
