Does anyone here even still watch seasonal stuff?

Regardless, can we talk about how GOOD Houseki no Kuni was?! What a corvbait show. It was CG, had a wide cast of cute girls, was a show that mixes suffering and cute everyday moments within the same episodes, and has really pretty character designs based on gems, which I used to collect and still kind of am into. It used 3DCG creatively and did things that 2D couldn't really do easily, and was an outstanding adaption (okay, the last episode was kind of a trail-off but that's about how all adaptions with ongoing materials go). Phos is a GREAT character who you can really feel the growth of throughout the show, and is starkly contrasted with everyone around her. I was agonizing throughout this entire season because I wanted to read more, but I also didn't want to lose out on the experience the anime was giving. I've began reading the manga now that the show has ended and it follows the manga to a T, and I think honestly really enhances the experience entirely. God damn, I love this show. Every episode made me want to watch more and learn about the strange world and the people in it and the fucking CGI grass animations.

It's really funny how HnK and Kemono Friends are at the top of my list for 2017. KemoFure themewise is about the opposite of HnK, and HnK's quality is about the opposite of KemoFure, but they both ended up being unusually exceptional shows to watch. What a strange world we live in. They both had bitchin' OPs too, and that's coming from someone who ignores OSTs mostly all of the time.

Again, that's pretty much exactly what the oscars are, so mission accomplished.

Well, that and handing out awards via a complicated system of favors owed (including awards to make up for previous snubs).

You  are right, but not entirely. There is no universal one true reason to exist. You exist because, you do. But there is also no reason to really fall into despair over that fact. There is more to life than just plain existance. Everyone just forges their own reason to live. Some live their passions, some live for their families, I just live because there is even less reason to die really, and I have hope that someone will give me reason to wake up every morning, go to work and do my best. I think you should too.

This is tangentially about a video game, but not really at the same time so I decided against posting it in the video games discussion. Gonna toss it in here instead. I'll warn you now it's long and doesn't have any meaningful conclusion, it's just me pouring my thoughts out.

Read for daily dose of existentialism.

On an honest note, well written. I empathize. I personally have never found myself stuck in a rut trying to find the meaning of life and purpose; the closest I can relate is that I do not enjoy doing nothing. As in just sitting around not really doing anything. Not because I constantly need distraction from some profound and potentially grim truth of existence, but because I just don't like wasting time. I could sleep in bed all day as it is the weekend, or I could sweep the house and feel proud looking upon these clean ass floors every day. That's time put to good use.

I'm disappointed, reading the responses I thought Cave's comment was going to be more like "If you make less than $100,000 per annum you should be thrown in the fucking electroshock chamber" or "I bottle the tears of poorfags and drink them with my caviar-encased filet mignon" instead of the extremely mild-mannered (and lame) "Most people can escape poverty if they really try and make good decisions, although some of course never can and I feel sympathy for those people." You can argue that he's clinging on to a relic of the past and that things have changed (which to a certain extent is true) but damn he's basically just being a well-meaning dad. And at any rate "You can escape poverty if you try" is monumentally better life advice than "Give up, you'll never make it."

I agree with this. I'm not saying that occasional shitpost should be grounds for immediate excommunication because god knows that practically every user on this forum is guilty of at least an occasional shitpost, but there are certain people who return to post only to incite and degrade and others who let themselves get whipped up into a frenzy by a fleeting mood. You want to know why this torrent of shitposts came along in this thread? It's because we (Myself, Facade, Huff, Insectan and Raze) were discussing it on Discord, as we do certain controversial things that are posted on these boards. I won't lie to you, there are some opinions that have been posted in this thread that I think are incredibly naive and that I disagree with, but I also don't have the energy or data to really dispute them outside of an "Well I don't feel this way" perspective. So I just don't post. But we still talk about it on the Discord and then people get into this weird fucking mood and it becomes a competition about who can be the most edgy when it comes to the responses. I personally would prefer it if people could just keep it to the Discord if they're going to be like this, but I also don't want to become the moral arbiter of what's OK to fuck with and what's not OK to fuck with, because as mentioned above, it's not like I'm sinless when it comes to this stuff. So I just stay quiet.

Honestly I think you hit the nail on the head, as much as Insectan wanted to prove some point by quoting you or whatever that was. I don't even think that dropping in to say that a discussion is "dumb" is even something you should do, it just comes across as really fucking arrogant. Just ignore it and participate in discussions you do find interesting. Like the really good one about CIA in the War Room right now.

I don't know why you guys do stuff like this. Just say the discussion is dumb if you want to. Posting a bunch of meme images after serious posts just makes you look like asshats. If you don't care about the discussion then don't say anything.

You guys are good posters on topics you care about but you then have to become ironically detached from discussions that other people care about that you don't. Maybe I'm the only one annoyed by this. If that's true then I guess I'll shut up.

I'm only six hours into it, but Nier Automata is blowing me away. The gameplay, boss battles and soundtrack have all been 10/10 so far.

Started work as a temporary administrator around 3 1/2 weeks ago, and although I've been hearing rumblings about it for the past week or so I've had it confirmed today that they want to take me on as a permanent contract and give me a promotion into a different team that they'll be starting in the new year as a data analyst.

I was really lucky today and managed to buy a SNES Classic (without paying scalpers).
The Menu is super charming and if you afk Mario takes over and starts randomly loading games.

Star Fox runs bad, which is cool, because emulators run it good and it runs (I assume) how it would on the OG hardware.
    Chill Penguin is a wimp.
I am bad at Donkey Kong.
F-Zero starts out easy but then the sand zone blows you up.
And I haven't started yet, but am excited to play Earthbound and SMRPG on something that's not a keyboard.
Also Final Fantasy 3 (6) is on there, dunno anything about it! But it's supposed to be good!

There's also this neat replay feature that saves the last forty seconds or so of gameplay.
So you can either load a savestate or pick up just before you jumped into those spikes.

I know you can just emulate all these (and a bunch are even on virtual console), but there's just something fun about having a bite sized SNES packed with retro goodies.

In more positive video game related things, I got around to play DOOM 2016 this week after missing its release. Absolutely stellar experience, easily one of my new favourite games.

An update to the whole "Star Card Loot Box" thing.

While I'd love to give credit where it's due, it's EA, so that's just not possible. In fact, I read this "resolution" as more the original intention - it's still slightly P2W, just less so than originally. I wouldn't be surprised if EA just ramped it up to absurdity, knowing full well they'd be called on it, so their "less extreme" version would be regarded as a godsend and the best thing to happen to gaming since the last best thing. Any other company (though maybe not, since I'd fully expect Activision to pull the same stunt) and I'd regard it positively, but, well, EA.

Conspiracy aside, though, this actually makes me interested in the game again, so I guess it worked.

Just watched Heaven's Feel movie one. Hell of a rollercoaster, and I'm just talking about what was going on before the movie. Met some people I never thought I'd meet, saw some things I'd never think I'd see.

The movie itself was great. I think that you lost a lot in translating Fate to an anime because like 70% of it is just Shirou thinking but god damn if it wasn't fun to watch. Cu is the fucking BEST and also I FUCKING LOVE RIDER AAAA
