Thanks man, it turned out really well, was pretty overwhelming to try and cook that many dishes at once though. As I said I'd do, I got a couple pictures of the meal. Necroing this thread to post about what I'm cooking my family for new years dinner. I'm going to be cooking fried potato and soybean cakes with tofu stuffed shiitake mushrooms fried in a soy sauce and mirin mixture, boiled soybean pods with sea salt seasoning and a miso soup. For pudding I'm making a maple sauce milk jelly with a strawberry lemon and maple syrup sauce. Will probably post pictures of it when I've got it served. Can also provide a recipe if anyone is interested in any of the stuff.

I had a dream involving ninjas, ponies, and terrorism. This one did a lot of dream-morphing between places so the setting is fuzzy for me. The place I remember most is a sandy desert area overshadowed by something huge and made of metal (Like the level on Halo 3 where you ride Scorpions through the Ark). There were two trailer house-sized rooms suspended above the desert valley by huge, solid metal pipes attached to the aforementioned giant metal structure. I think we were shooting targets in the canyon from one of them at one point, but then I went to the other one and apparently found Applejack. I was apparently also okay with that and decided to hang out for a bit, then we picked up radio that some group had already searched the first room and found no bomb. Naturally I turn around and see this cartoon horse putting together a bomb and apparently I'm like "oh shit I need to protect her until it's ready to be detonated" so I grab a wooden sword that was nearby and guard the plexiglass sliding door. I'm then attacked by one ninja that I handily defeat by disarming him and breaking his sword (which was wood or bamboo or something) and he talks to me about how he doesn't want to die or something in a weird goofy accent that I couldn't really identify. I wait some more and another ninja comes towards the door, this time with a much longer bamboo sword and a shorter one taped to his crotch (!?). I manage to defeat him by closing the auto-sliding plexiglass door on his crotch-sword and then breaking it off. By that time I think the bomb was ready, but the dream kinda faded out before any conclusion was made.

Holy shit, that's insane. The most I can do is boil pasta and dunk stuff in it. Your family sounds incredibly lucky to have you, that all really does sound amazing.

double post because completely unrelated One of my friends in my uni's computer lab made an app that lets your smartphone camera scan for the object in front of it, and identify it audibly! He hopes it will gain a lot of traction in helping blind people live more normal lives. It's 100% free if you want to fuck around with it.
