Trifluoroacetic acid is like acetic acid (vinegar), but more acidic because of the fluorines. They make the acidic hydrogen of the molecule come off more easily.

I had to look up lysergic acid. Apparently, it's a precursor to LSD (among other alkaloids), so try not to get too high.

The procedure itself isn't particularly scary, although anhydrous acetic acid is dangerous to get on your skin, so trifluoacetic would be worse. I'd wear gloves.

No clue why you'd want to do it, though. Must be how they make the autism virus.
