This story contains spoilers for Harry Potter, so I guess if you're not familiar with the full extent of the story and don't want to be spoiled, don't click it.

But that's the thing, Senran Kagura doesn't fall into either of those two categories in my opinion. I can totally understand why most people probably would be averse to playing Senran Kagura, because it definitely has got a lot of fanservice. That being said, if you were to remove the fanservice, the game would still be an extremely solid 3rd person beat 'em up. I think it's unfair to say that Senran Kagura would be a mediocre at best game if you took away the fanservice. That's pretty much the one thing that makes it stand out, the fact that you buy an anime tiddy game expecting to get some anime tiddy and then you end up with gameplay that is really fun, together with a well thought out character progression system. Out of curiousity, have you played Estival Versus? This isn't me trying to call you out or anything, it's just that what you're describing Senran Kagura as sounds a lot like myself before I played the games.

I'm almost three weeks late to the party, but I wanted to chime in and say that I also believe that Bad Company 2 was one of the best multiplayer games ever produced and I probably the Battlefield game I put the most hours into online, except for possibly Battlefield 2, not entirely sure. That game was absolutely stellar on release and it had sound design that to this day has yet to be matched as far as I am concerned. It looked great, it sounded great and it played great. It did unfortunately have some balance issues and I had my fair share of frustrations during the ~300 hours I played the multiplayer. The M2 Carl Gustav was absolutely the most unfun thing in the entire game to play against. It might be true that the weapon has anti-personnel properties in real life, but the kill-radius on the blast from that thing was fucking absurd. You could get caught on the edge of the blast and still go from 100 to 0. Thankfully it was nerfed eventually. Then there was the AN-94 assault rifle, which true to real life had the ability to fire two-round bursts in such rapid succession, that the recoil from the second round fired could barely be felt by the wielder, meaning that it was essentially an extremely potent double-tap weapon with a very good rate of fire. This becomes a problem when the weapon is more accurate at range than every single bolt-action rifle in the game, will kill you in a single tap because technically it hits you with two bullets and also has close-combat prowess when switched to full auto. It was basically the perfect weapon at all ranges, for all situations. Speaking of shit that would kill you with deadeye accuracy from across the map that really shouldn't, who could forget the shotgun slug customization option. For some reason, DICE thought it would be a great idea to make the slugs have 0 damage drop-off at range, which meant so long as you hit your target, you could blast a guy from full health to dead from across the map with a single shotgun tap.

Anyway, that was a years frustrations of playing that game bubbling to the surface. Out of over 100 weapons, the game had like 5 or 6 that were an issue balance wise, it was honestly pretty impressive for the most part and they managed to strike a rare balance between infantry and armour. Great fucking game, shame the multiplayer community is hanging on by a thread at this point.

I already posted my picture but seeing as people are blogging, I'm going to as well.

The year of anime that was 2016 feels very foggy to me in retrospect. In general, I just had a really hard time picking out stuff that was really memorable in terms of anime, which is why my picture is very empty compared to the 2015 one. I was struggling to put shows/characters in each of the categories and I couldn't even think of honourable mentions for most of them. I blame the fact that so much happened in my personal life (joining the army, finishing basic, blablabla). It actually bothers me, because I don't think that 2016 was a bad year for anime, which is why I am going to earnestly try and think back on the year in this post.

I don't even remember really anything I've watched I need to go to anichart or something

Winter: What a shitshow with diamond encrusting. I have so many shows I dropped and only three I kept, and all of those I really liked: Ajin, Bubuki Buranki, and Koukaku no Pandora. I'd say that Bubuki Buranki edges out the others for being something I don't normally watch, but Pandora was a lot of fun with a really oddly dark setting in the background of a cute girls doing cute things show.

Spring: Kuso season. Haifuri wins for being endearing enough for me to not have forgotten. Anne Happy might have won if Ruri wasn't the worst character ever or if they all ever had more than one joke per character, but it still gets a mention for a really catchy OP and a red-headed Literal Sakurako But Now She's In Love With a Slav Who Has a Yuri Magnetic Field™

Summer: Didn't watch anything but Love Live Sunshine. It wins regardless.

Fall: Hey, that has BBK BRNK 2 and Ajin 2 on it, that means he must pick one of those right? Well no, actually I'm a little shit and this was during a point where I was busy planetmansing or something and I never actually finished either. I'm totally gonna do it, though, just can't include those into consideration. I don't want to include Magical Girl Keikaku Doori as AOTS because it was a fucking dumb show with a million problems, so Scorching Ping Pong Girls wins by default.

AOTY: Bubuki Buranki (the first season). The first two or three episodes are really slow and then it picks up, with some really fun villains that get as much characterization of all the main group, and everything really fills out amazingly. It begins as a fairly typical "We have to make a team to fight Reoko cuz she's crazy and burns things" and then gives a lot of focus on both sides, until you realize that the "bad guys" were just far more experienced than the main group and knew what would happen if they screwed around, each "villain" existing to support their leader Reoko, who at first appears to be some random psychopath but changes to a kind of tragic hero.

it was fuckin magical, and the half of the second season I saw was continuing in that trend. Bonus points to the producer, who made sure to get the second season out despite sales on the first not being that good.

I'm still not too huge on watching shows unless it's with someone else (watched the first thing on this list alone, however. Still had someone to talk to about it), so here's the list of stuff that I watched (mostly with different people). I can't really fill out the template with such little shows, I think.

Winter: Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (The ending seemed a bit strange and I'm not too good at picking things up and since I don't read forums to spoil me or anything, it was a fun thing to watch. Ended up getting with the girl I liked the best so it ended off decently. Enjoyed watching it in bed on school nights
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (watched this one during Spring I think, it's got some funny stuff and Aqua is best girl. Just wish the damn Nendo wouldn't be out of stock all the time)
Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara.(didn't watch the last 2 episodes for varying reasons, it's a short so there wasn't much to it)

Spring: Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? (Jokingly asked a friend if we should watch it, we ended up marathoning it one night I think. It was fun because we would relate the four main characters to our gaming group, which worked out surprisingly well.)

    Summer: nothing

Fall: Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku (I really didn't like this one, but I had to push forward and finish it. Truly a "why am I watching thisi?" experience.)
Occultic;Nine (I liked the fast pace but WOW that ended way too quickly. Definitely needed more episodes. Had fun with this, and it made me watch Steins;Gate in January. Too many plotholes with just the anime sadly.)

    Movies watched:
Kizumonogatari 1 (Watched this right after Bakemonogatari and 3 episodes of Nisemonogatari before I was told I HAD to get this story before continuing on. It was nice but the characters still look a little sweaty and icky sometimes, but that's probably intentional.)
Kizumonogatari 2 (Read the book before I could see this one so I knew the plot.  I've watched this with two different people, having others with you totally makes a few comedic scenes that I didn't find funny at all in a solo-ish viewing)
Tantei Opera Milky Holmes movie thing (technically February 2016 even though it took like 20 years to come out. I never watched seasons 3 and 4 [and won't] so it was nice to see G4 and Milky Holmes back in action. Wish there was some Poporo action though. Fun and funny)

I watched a lot more new/currently airing anime this year than usual (4 or 5), so I'd call it a solid year.

JoJo was great, as expected. I don't see how part 5 is going to top it unless the King Crimson memes are on point, but that's just because the Duwang Gang are such an endearing band of lovable motherfuckers that it's hard to top.

Boku no Hero was a bit of a surprise to me because I hadn't read the manga. I expected it to be average to good shonen fare, but MAN I love Deku, and his rivalry with Bakugo somehow manages to feel fresh and exciting. Maybe because I actually like both characters in their own way instead of hating the edgy rival guy.

Tiger Mask W was my biggest surprise of the year. I don't even like wrestling, but I gave it a shot just for shits and giggles and I'm really enjoying it week after week. Watching Tiger Mask and JoJo back to back nearly gave me testosterone poisoning when they were both running concurrently.

Konosuba is great, though I jumped on the bandwagon a bit late (as in I caught up about a day before the most recent episode of season 2 came out). That show is genuinely laugh out loud funny, and a gold mine of reaction images (with Aqua's snerk in the most recent episode being perhaps the best yet). My MOM watches and laughs at the show, and she doesn't even like anime.

And I think those are all the ones I watched through this year. I need to watch Mob Psycho, just haven't gotten to it yet.

    Anime I attempted to watch:

Magi: Labyrinth of Magic (not as good as season1, dub took a steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep nosedive in quality)
    Dimension W (boring, overall meh)
Drifters (seemed interesting, for some reason I just stopped after 1 episode)
Endride (not even Ian Sinclair could save this)
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash (my brother and I took bets on how long it would take the Cleric to die around the middle of episode 1. We watched up to that point, then stopped.)

And special recognition goes to Taboo Tattoo for "most generic anime of the year", which I dropped after 1 episode. Endride gets second place.

aight so this is the year I started watching a good amount of anime, so this is a smattering of older shit I first watched this year with some stuff that actually aired in 2016

Older titles I saw and completed for the first time this year are as follows:
-Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro
    -Bakemonogatari
    -Nisemonogatari
    nekomonogatari: Kuro
    -Ghost in the Shell
    -Love Live! The Movie
    -both Little Witch Academias
    -5 Centimeters per Second

Lupin was really comfy comfy as expected. I need to get on more of the series to get my heist fill.

Monogatari is honestly probably my favorite anime yet. Incredibly stylish, interesting plot lines, absolutely genius writing and dialogue, fantastic music, and wonderfully entertaining characters. I'm very glad I have so much ahead of me for this series. Also::::: lewd.

Ghost in the Shell was a nice look at anime history and was like Blade Runner but this time I'm old enough to understand it. I like older anime movies because they aren't afraid to take it slow and tell a more contained story.

Watched Love Live! on a whim. No desire to pursue the series, it was ok. TODOKETE-

LWA was really damn charming and I'm looking forward to watching the show with the boys.

5 cm/s was comfy but brought some feels.

New/currently airing things I watched this year:
    -Hibike! Euphonium Season 2
    -Jojo pt.4
    -Flip Flappers
    -Milky Holmes Movie
    -Gakuen Handsome

Jojo was Jojo. My favorite part so far. Loved the cast and stands. Kira is the best villain ever tbh.

Eupho was great! I felt really bittersweet in my chest when we finished it; that kind of panic and sorrow one feels when you know that's the end of something you love. At least Shu rotted in a corner and Reina has time to realize she has a wife already.

I asked to watch Flip Flappers with Toby and Alex on a whim after hearing that it was actually rly good despite seeming just to be a meme name. While some parts felt rough, rushed, and underdeveloped, I don't know if I've seen much media more charming than it though. It reminded me of Calvin and Hobbes in some parts and Supernatural in others. Whimsical and intense at the same time, it was a joy to watch. I could have done with less preteen nudity though personally. And I don't think it needed the henshin stuff really.

Milky Holmes was a welcome surprise of a riot. Reminded me of Teekyu; I'll probably watch the series sometime.

    Gakuen Handsome: 8^y
took too long to watch thx rhombo

asked no one. but here it is. It's two months late and I just finished flip flappers so I thought, what the hell, lets do it.

So what did you think of last year? Some pretty good anime, right? Did anything catch your fancy out of the blue? Did the alien in Jojo live up to your expectations? Did the kuma miko conclusion hit home with its accurate portrayal of mental disorders and then leave you without any sort of resolution? Who was best girl?
