Last night in Elite:
Spent about 30 minute flying around trying to find a decent price for some synthetic fabric I bought earlier. Come up to a small docking station, only to have my docking request denied. Means either I'm about to die, or that the station is ocupado. Judging by the other ships also circling the station, it turned out that someone went AFK on the landing pad, and everyone else had to funnel into the remaining functional pad. Spent a good 20 minutes waiting my turn, shooting the breeze with the other pilots waiting there. Finally get in, do my business, fuel up, and start to head out. Few of the pilots I was talking with want to join up, so we do so. Get in a wing and fly out. Among the three of us there was me, with two days, another new guy (3 days), and the more experienced of the three of us. Vet want's to go mine, we tag along, only to realize we cannot a) mine without a mining laser, or collect the ore without a refinery.
So we head off to the nearest station while he mines, to try to get the equipment. get to the station and I can't afford it. So I open the job board, and take a contract to deal with some pirates in the same system. Other Guy goes on a quick courier mission. On my way back, I run into the system authorities, who just so happen to be taking on one of the pirates I was assigned to kill. I jump in and help, and get my bounty. Did that three more times, and have enough for the mining equipment.
Go on to mining, figure out how to collect and refine materials with Vet's help. He'd blast some things for me to collect, then point them out with the lasers. Let me do that a few times, then we went to work on our own asteroids. There's something calming about mining. You fly over to a rock, carve a smiley face into it, then lock onto the little chunks that fly off. Then you lower your collection scoop, fly over, and pick it up. Look to the right and pick what you want to refine it into, then vent the rest. Repeat that about 300 times. After venting a few almost-full deposits by accident, and I've finally got a full cargo hold of random minerals. I head back to the station, sell my wears (no where near making up my losses yet...), inform my wingmates I'm signing off, then head out.
I like this game.
