Since the last year, the Spanish TF2 community has been losing players, and the main reason is because it has been losing servers (and a year without new weapons hurts too). There has always been DDoS attacks to the Spanish community, but the last year they increased in number, and the main company that hosted some of the best TF2 servers got tired of the attacks, and closed its gaming servers, leaving server owners with the decision of closing or searching for other company.
Many chose to close, the owners didn't have as much time as they did when they opened and didn't want to waste money in servers that would get DDoS'd the second they reached a decent amount of players.
Why am I telling you this? Because my friends and me couldn't stand this, servers closing and people leaving. We opened our own server in November and now want to get the players who left back. And what's better than a little tournament?
So,for the last 6 months we have been working hard, designing, talking to people, getting them involved and finally we have made it. I introduce you Retrospective.
It will take place in the Euskal Encounter, the most important LAN Party in Spain, with over 4000 atendees and enough bathrooms for all of them. There will be CS:GO, DOTA2 and LoL tournaments too, but what matters is the TF2 one.
There will actually be four different tournaments: 4v4, 6vs, Ready Steady Pan and Dodge Ball. The 6vs tournament will be exclusive for the Euskal attendants, so people who aren't experienced in competitive play can face each other in a competitive enviroment, without worrying about doing bad or getting wrecked badly by Div.1 players. Also, the winner team will get 3D printed versions of the winner medals.
The main reason I'm telling you about this are the online tournaments. 4v4, RSP and Doge Ball will be online, so anyone can join them, not only from Spain, but from anywhere. The only thing that might be a problem is the ping, so avoid taking part in it if you are in Australia. There will barely be any restriction in the tournaments, and their rules should be finished soon and accepted by the Euskal Encounter people.
And now you ask me "Why should I take part in this thing? I don't care about your country or your players". Well, as advertised in the video, there will be medals and badges. Badges for the participants and buttugly medals for the winners. Valve has confirmed us they will get in the game, all they need are names for the medals and test them in case something is wrong and we have to fix them. Also, there will be a hat raffle. We would love to raffle an unusual, but since none of us has one, we'll just raffle a bunch of hats between all the people who plays in any of the tournaments. And the 4v4 and 6vs finals will be streamed through Twitch and commented by another staff member of my community, Bad Wolf, and the admin of TF2Portal, the most important TF2 Community in Spain.
We have a poster too: '>
I would love to have a subSPUF team taking part in. You could sign up as a team or without one, if you are alone we will put you with other loners, if possible from subSPUF too.
So, what do you think?
