I don't think Valve will ever make games again, except for glorified tech demos for new hardware (that they're making/selling). They're supposedly making three VR games now. Three fucking games for VR when they haven't made an actual game in the better half of a decade, all while the old guard who actually made all the games are dropping like flies. And whatever happened to Steam Machines (and SteamOS)? There was so much hype, then they came out, then... nothing. I couldn't go a day without hearing about them back then, then they came out and I ain't heard jack shit about them since. Sometimes I forget they even exist. Looking it up it seems sales for them are really bad. How much you think they lost with those? What if their foray into VR also fails? Companies, don't do things for no reason. Why are they killing SPUF now? If ever there was a time to kill it it would've been soon after SPUD appeared. You'd have a sizeable amount of SPUFers that would've migrated there and given the newbies some sort of forum culture to assimilate into. There's no way to test it of course, but I suspect that simply forcing SPUF to turn into SPUD would've been better than letting two separate forums exist for half a decade then suddenly shutting the old one down one morning with no warning. I suppose you could say that SPUF shutting down was an inevitability, but it was only inevitable in the same way that Korean unification is inevitable - it'll happen eventually, but not until something forces it to. My pet theory is that Valve's decided to go over the books recently because the failure of Steam Machines dented their profits and are looking at ways to cut the fat. SPUF cost money, so it had to go. It also might be causing some management changes, which is prompting a lot of the old crew to leave (since they're probably not making any games they really give a shit about anymore anyway). In the end, it's all just guessing as Valve isn't a public company and thus releases whatever information it wants to whenever it wants to. I seriously doubt they'll go bankrupt or anything anytime soon and they're very obviously still running well in the black but I think Valve's best days are behind them, if not as a profit-seeking corporation then definitely as a game developer. Also it seems I missed where we were posting old TF2 screenshots. Only 2013 kids remember this. Is Pinion even still around? I last played TF2 a couple months ago and never saw a server with it. -
2 pointsThere have been many requests for a blog for SPUFers to share TF2 stories or post things that may not fit the forum. Well, now we have one! I designed spuf.org so that anyone with a SPUF account can submit blog posts, and we update daily! I'll do the editing, supply the pictures (unless you supply your own) and in general I've tried to make submitting as easy as possible. Read our How to Contribute page if you'd like more information, and you can subscribe to either the blog or Facebook to receive updates when new articles come out. (Update: If videos are more your thing, we now also do weekly videos on our youtube channel, The SPUF of Legend! Just like with the blog, we accept submissions if you've ever wanted to try your hand at making videos!) There are already almost 3 years of daily posts to read through if you want to get a feel for how things look and work at Spufblog. Pictures are usually supplied by the hard-working folk at the Loadout Picture Request Topic, the site itself is graciously hosted by thesupremecmdr (owner of the SPUF server) me, and several SPUFers have already submitted posts, including aabicus stamda, Maxillaws, and XYTWO. If you've ever wanted to write a blog post, this is the time (and place) to do it. Follow this thread for updates on our most recent article, or join the Steam group!

Nail on the head, I think. Valve has a ton of projects they've either abandoned or forgotten (I will never stop laughing at the Portal 2 store), or that have failed (like the Steam Machines), and I'm guessing the penny-pinchers are starting to get ruffled. Even the gaming community - stalwart defenders of both Valve and its Time - is starting to turn against Valve the Video Game Company, since they... well, they don't make video games any more. 5 years ago, Valve could Do No Wrong, even when acting as the biggest/most used DRM service in the business. DRM has always been generally frowned upon, but given a pass on Steam because "Hey, it's Valve. They're a gaming company first, profit-seeking company second. They won't try to screw us." It's a completely different atmosphere now. Mentioning Valve (the gaming company) now comes with a smirk, just like Valve Time always did. Now, if they come out at E3 with some big game announcement, tides may turn... but it's probably too late, with Valve's current track record and good old Valve Time working against anything they would announce. -

God help us if e-sport types had a match intruded on by friends trying to play. Probably empty player-slots would be filled faster if they just treated TF2 like it was TF2 to boot, it takes an insanely long time for missing players to be replaced in a matchmaking game. I'm more familiar with the "Looking for players..." buffering icon than I am an actual player profile occupying that spot at this point. -

Hello all..
Confusion reacted to MetaBreakers for a post in a topic
I guess I should probably introduce myself seeing as that's what these forums are for. So I'm Meta Breakers. I'm a male human being of an unimportant age (I swear to you, it's ABOVE 16. I won't be an annoying squeaker of any kind.) and I joined SPUF because my friend TOGE showed me your forums a few times before in the past and I was tempted to join but then I heard about Valve shutting down the Steampowered User Forums and I was disheartened to know I missed my chance to be a part of your community. But after some months, I had brought it up again to TOGE because I had remembered many of the commentaries he made for the SPUF of Legends Youtube channel and I was worried it had been abandoned after the closing and now archiving of the old SPUF. Instead, he told me about an alternate forum where SPUF had moved itself to and about some of the events coming up right now (i.e. the SPUF Hunger Games which he won the 2nd via dysentery TKO) and I wanted to see if there was a possibility I could join you all. And here I am. So... what's up? How are you all? As you can tell, I am brony from my profile picture (although, I honestly haven't watched much TV since spring of last year when I started to become a bit more social and active online/offline), but I enjoy a wide variety of shows. A few are Archer, Loud House, Invader Zim, Impractical Jokers, the Carbonaro Effect, Adam Ruins Everything, 1000 Ways to Die, Samurai Jack (the reboot AND the original series), American Dad and early Family Guy, One Punch Man, the Daily Show, the now cancelled but sorrily missed Colbert Report, @Midnight, Highlands on HBO, American Ninja Warrior, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Empire, RWBY, the Simpsons, among others... Okay, that may not be as diverse as I'd like but it's a far amount I'd say for not having watched TV for the most part of 2 years. I spend most of my time now watching TF2, Gmod, CS:GO, Theodd1sout, TED Talks, derpy SFMs, and fanmade and remixed music videos or older songs that have either receeded into nostalgia terrority although, I still haven't been doing that as much as I've wanted to recently either.. Huh. I've been really stagnant lately. Anyways, I love to make art, write songs, ride my bike, attempt to fight my autism by developing social skills, read, practice/learn graffiti, play TF2 (I main Medic but I'm slowly improving as Scout; I have 2,600+ hours but I'm still kinda garbage) and slowly coming to terms with the looming sadness that is adulthood. In any case, if there's an questions you have me or things you'd like to call me out on for doing, don't be afraid to do so. I know I'm a bit of a derpy jackass from time to time, so if I offend anyone... Sorry. Like, I'm really sorry about that. I don't mean to be a prick if I come off as one and I don't want to step on any toes. I don't like being the stereotype "awkward or douchebag new guy" I've been there before and it's no fun. Plus, I heard what happened with Beethoven and I have no intention on repeating whatever that guy did so, yeah. I should go now, I'm going to go hang out with some friends and watch One Punch Man on DVD. So yeah... that's me. Bye... -

Ah, thank you, this is a good explanation. Hope it's fixed soon, it's such a little thing, but that just makes it more annoying once noticed because it's everywhere. -
1 pointOnce, people respected Valve's silent attitude because they delivered. They might not have communicated often, but they released updates and games of the highest quality in the industry, so it was easy to forgive their tight-lipped secrecy. Valve's philosophy of promising (and saying) nothing, but over-delivering, was admirable. A decade later, and it's a complete joke. Not only is Valve's closed off nature a negative, but it looks highly unprofessional. While other developers are making quick tweets about what they're currently doing, answering questions daily on forums, and even making announcement videos and blog posts where they explain the latest patches and their own decisions in detail, Valve fails at even the most basic of communications. They don't even answer basic questions. Releasing a vague blog post every few months, and nothing else, isn't acceptable anymore. Dodging questions and not interacting with the community isn't normal now. Valve put a barrier between themselves and their players because they feared backlash, that "the internet never forgets when you mess up or lie", but nowadays it's an acceptable risk. Developers have PR people, they attempt damage control within hours. They do this because this is what gamers expect now, and that expectation is mirrored with film, tv, music and all other media. Valve thinks saying nothing means no risks of backlash, ignoring that now silent is deafening. Their attitude only worked in the past because social media wasn't popular and they made good games. Neither is now true. Valve needs to adapt, they simply have no presence anymore, and they are blending into the background as a game developer. This must change.

"tyle_extra/team_icons/Member.png" Compared to the working: "style_extra/team_icons/PremiumUser.png" Notice the typo in "style", that's not me. This is what it should be showing: (http://spufpowered.com/public/style_extra/team_icons/Member.png) Also note how the broken one is in "uploads", whereas the working one is in "public". -

Man, I forgot all about the Portal 2 store. I think I was just confused by it mostly - how many people would buy any of these things? It turns out not many. Valve's reputation has taken a dive recently (and by recently I mean the past 7 years or so). It's turned from "Valve will do good things, and make a profit from doing them" to "Valve will make a profit and do some good things" to "Well, it's Valve, what did you expect". I sincerely believe that if Half Life 3 came out tomorrow it would have an item shop - I don't think they're capable of making a real game without microstransactions anymore. Although I suppose that's true for a lot of companies nowadays - Valve was supposed to be different. -

1 pointI still dont know why this image is on my portable drive, but not on my Steam screenshots. I guess some people already know the story, but it was my first and only unusual. Got it from the free Christmas keys from the 2010 event. It looked nice, but the novelity wore off pretty fast. I traded it for a bunch of hats (16 or so) one or two months later, two of them being a Vintage Pickelhaube and a Blighted Beak. Some time later, the first Saxxy Awards started. Clovernoodle, a semi-famous Gmod youtuber was asking in the forums for people with these 2 items. I never said that I was going to help, only that I had the items. He put me on the team anyway. "Oh well, I guess I gotta help him now." After weeks of stuggling with the replay system, we managed to finish this masterpiece (of shit), Clovernoodle had made all his videos private, but now he made them unlisted. Honestly, I have no idea how we won. Some other videos were far better, but I remember some used external editing and even SFM in one case. Anyway, a chocolate Saxton covered in gold foil. The novelity wore just as fast.
