It sort of is a night karoke bar. It boils down to females or males entertaining the opposite gender. You know, like prostitution, except legal and without any sexual intercourse. It's just somewhere people go to wind down and/or get attention. The employees at a host club will converse with you, play games with you, sing karaoke with you, drink with you etc. Actually you know what, a better description would be a strip club without the nudity and stripping.

Currently watching Canaan because of its neat title and because Voodoo recommended it. So far its shit, but at least it has delicious brown animu grills.

why is it wrong to call it anime? Anime is Japanese for animation. which is synonymous with cartoon. the only real difference is its point of origin, and style. That being said i feel more comfortable calling it anime because it is in a Japanese art style. That being said there is ALSO nothing wrong with saying "Japanese cartoons" for anime or "Japanese comics" for manga. for example: k-pop (korean pop) has a certain style. Beyond having a different language just listening to the rhythems you can tell its different from western pop. is it incorrect to call it pop though? Nah. they are the same.
