Should James Bond be Black?
Verumae and one other reacted to Stackbabbin' Bumscags for a post in a topic
Except there really isn't much else to Bond except that he's a very intelligent and suave spy (WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE SCOTTISH MIGHT I ADD YET AGAIN) who just so happens that, because of how Hollywood is, is white. There is literally no reason that Bond couldn't be black and have him still be the exact same character. I mean, we've had British and Aussie Bonds, but woah no black Bond is outta the question. :I -

Note to self: scrap plans for Breaking Bad re-edit in which instead of cooking meth, Walter White is secretly and inexplicably leading a double life as Beyonce. -

Should James Bond be Black?

There is also a significant difference between changing a character's appearance and changing a character's personality, motives, beliefs, etc. Although it might be inconsistent with the novels to have him be black, it doesn't necessarily change the character. You seem to be assuming that a black James Bond would be fundamentally different than a white James Bond, which is a bit of a stretch. -

Also, Rammite, all those characters you named have a whole lot more narrative behind them than Bond does. Harry Potter is a young wizard whose parents were murdered by an evil asshole, and Harry was the sole survivor, nobody has ever survived this evil asshole before. Harry was placed at the abusive Dursely's to be taken care of until it was time for him to learn of his wizard heritage. Now he goes off to Hogwarts to learn more about the mystical arts, and while he's there a whole lotta shit goes down, including Lord Moldybutt rising once more and threatening everything. Walter White is a teacher down on his finances and with little options left, turns to manufacturing and selling methamphetamines, here's his story. Sherlock Holmes is an incredibly intelligent sociopath of a man who uses his considerable intellect to solve some of the most difficult crimes, we follow him as he cracks the toughest cases that the local police can't even touch. James Bond is... super-spy panty melter? I mean, he's smart and smooth as fuck, he can charm his way into most situations, is athletic enough to be able to handle himself in a fight, thinks quickly on his feet, and he has lots of toys. But there really isn't much else to him except super-spy panty melter. -

Dreams
Mersopolis reacted to Huff for a post in a topic
Had an off series of dreams. First section was the most cinematic one. I had won a trip to Disneyland and I was hanging out in it all alone. For some reason there was a cosplay competition going on in the park, so I decided to go as Fred Jones, duh. Miraculously I managed to run into a Group with a Shaggy, a Daphne, a Velma, and a Scooby but no Fred, so we joined up for a while. So we go to ride the new Indiana Jones ride that is based off of a Pyramid and we get in line. In front of us is this weird kid who may or may not be retarded. He holds up the line and makes a ruckus before jumping out of bounds and into the mock swamp down below in a tomb area. After that we manage to get into the ride (a walking one, actually, like a funhouse) and we're spooked by a bunch of weird things that happen to is. Toward the end of the ride we think someone is trying to kill us so we access a Cast Members Only area of the pyramid and hunt down the control room. I find an emergency Fire Axe on the wall and open the room up and a child is behind the desk. I'm too conflicted to drive the axe right into her without warning, so I slam it into the desk beside her and the chair swivels a bit, revealing the child to be long dead and preserved, with some kind of note attached to her explaining that the ride is powered by the orphan's soul or heart or something. Scared, we book it. I think there was an alternate ending, though. There was a different group of protagonists and the setting was a bit more dangerous, with more traps. Towards the ends, the previously deadbeat team leader makes a wish the become an immortal tree golem before he's killed. The immortality and EXTREME DEATH canceled each other out and they made it out of the tomb. The dream then switched plots. The was a painting that changed to show a current version of the place it was currently at. Oddly though, the painting was fucking full of bananas; there was always at least one banana in the scene that was not there in real life. One could manipulate the picture by removing objects and moving them. Once you did, the picture would show how that action would have affected the scene had it been taken long ago. I then had a dream that I was Iron Man and accidentally killed a villain with a whole skyscraper. The last part took place in my uncle's room. Three different colored versions of Slimer from Ghostbusters challenged me to twister. I realized I could stop them from killing me by trapping them in the twister mat and then punching them through the matching colored spots on the mat. Then I woke up. -

Try it in Private Browsing mode (ctlr+shift+n or go into the top-right menu to open a new private tab). A plugin may be interfering, and Private Browsing disables them all temporarily. -

Should James Bond be Black?
Raison d'ĂȘtre reacted to Rammite for a post in a topic
I think it's retarded. James Bond is white. That's just who he is. Harry Potter isn't an asian hoodlum with a penchant for puns and dark humor, Walter White isn't a prissy black woman with sass, Sherlock Holmes isn't a trigender whateverthefuck. Changing Bond to be black is every bit as bad as changing Sokka to be ultra-serious for the Last Airbender movie. You don't fuck with an established characterization and pretend nothing has changed. You can mess with The Doctor because that's explained in his lore and background - he can do that, and is known for doing that a multitude of times. Batman is Bruce Wayne. He was born into immense wealth and lost his parents early on. You don't fuck with that because then that's not Batman, that's your Original Character Do Not Steal. -
