Sorry, america, but these are giant robot fights we're taking about. Japan has been fucking with giant robot fights for centuries. It's basically a season for them, Winter, Spring, Summer, Robots, Fall.

​But, how? Megaton is right outside the vault. It's like the first hub town in the goddamn game. I can just imagine you finishing the tutorial, walking out of the vault, looking at the big metal settlement in front of you, walking towards it, seeing the "You have discovered: Megaton" text and then saying "Well, this was a good run." And never fucking playing for 5 years.

I was in this house with my parents and some scientist professor looking guy. For whatever reason there were no stairs in the entire world, and that was the norm, as if I was in some other dimension, and I was trying to explain to him the concept behind them but he wasn't getting it at all. There were rope ladders and this webbing sort of thing on all the walls. He got really angry with me shouting about how stupid the concept of stairs was then stormed out. I was so confused that I just woke up.

...I was at an opulent mansion, and during what I assume was a tour there was a room full of caged animals (I can only assume it was for the owner of the mansion to shoot when he's bored). Of course, two animals broke from their cage and I had to fight them. One was a large wolf, and the other was A FUCKING LHURGOYF. I quickly pulled out a sniper rifle (I apparently had one the whole time) and used an ability basically exactly like Zer0's from BL2 to evade and headshot the two animals to death. (I assume I shot the lhurgoyf in the mouth since its head is a little hard to gauge.) After that, I wandered the party for a bit before realizing it was a full moon and that I was apparently a werewolf. Yeah. So I went all awoo and shit and ran around the grounds for a while before learning I could control the transformation. Then I sat with this girl I think was in my high school at one point and we talked about drawing before I woke up.

Bern sums it up very well. Honestly, TF2 was dead to me when it became free to play, the entire atmosphere of the community just changed. Free to play games just attract a completely different audience, and naturally there was just a massive influx of new players that didn't know what the fuck they were doing. It was clear that TF2 needed that injection of new people but back then I often thought it might've been better to just stay paid and slowly die out. And that's just how TF2 has always been since then: when you join a 24 player server, a maximum of 8 people actually know how to play and the other 16 are cannon fodder. But even then, TF2 is still really fun to me, and calling a game with such a large playing community dead is probably kind of silly. The pre-F2P spark is gone but that turned TF2 from a 9.5/10 game into an 8/10 game and it is still miles better than the half a handful of other arena shooters that are still out there. And sadly it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon, as Overwatch looks to be more like a first person MOBA than an arena shooter, and dirty bomb is way closer to the millitary shooter genre than the arena shooter genre. This is also why I am so genuinely bitter about Tribes Ascend: it came at exactly the right time to grab all the leaving TF2 players and had absolutely everything going for it to (without hyperbole) become my favourite game of all time, and it got utterly destroyed by Hirez wanting to squeeze as much money as possible out of it and dropping it as soon as the well ran dry. Compared to that shit the TF2 dev team have been fucking saints for keeping it running for so long and still being a blast to play after eight years. I mean are there any 8 year old games that haven't drastically decreased in quality? TL;DR TF2 lost its original spark years ago but it's still the best online shooter out there. And considering it's almost 8 years old it could be so much worse right now.

I had a dream that my previous drama class was celebrating a Lewis and Clark festival, where we all had to wear blue socks because that was Clark's favorite color, with one splotch of red on one of them to symbolize how Lewis didn't actually travel with Clark and stayed home instead. I dunno

I don't think you can really consider a game to be dead when its community is still playing it. It's still among the most played games on Steam right now. That being said, I think part of the reason that I, and probably a lot of other people, are still coming back to it is the fact that there hasn't been any games worth talking about like it since it came out. I hated first-person shooters when I picked up TF2; the characters drew me in. The gameplay kept me here for seven years. Hell, I wouldn't have even bothered with PC gaming if it wasn't for TF2. And I still play it regularly. But I'll be honest, it's only because there's nothing else. Lambda and I still play it because it's an easy game to just hop on when we're both tired from work and just goof off. Once someone makes a game that can actually compete with TF2, I don't know how much longer the community will stick around.
